Which Polish?

Ok my heads in a spin, I've got Thurs. and Fri off and I intend Claying, polishing and waxing/sealer. I can't decide which polish is best for a black car being done by hand. Also which works best with black a wax or a sealant? Oh I've have a Super Guard Selant pad are they any good? :headbang:

Just nipped of over to Detailing world and the speak very highly of Autoglym's Super Resin Polish, any thoughts.

Without a machine to polish it you'll probably never get amazing results. It's very hard to fully break down a polish by hand and get the results you can with a machine.
 
If your in a tis was then a good beginers 3 step system is the meguiars 3 step crystal system.
You can get this from halfords along with there smooth surface clay kit which comes with clay, quick detailer, cleaner polish ( paint cleanser ) and a microfibre towel iirc.

Simple system really and gives excellent results by hand.

Use the usual wash system:

Rinse
Wash
Rinse
Clay
Rinse
Dry

Then follow the 3 step system and the car should be nice and shiny.
The products will give a you a bit of an idea of what they are and where there place is in the cleaning/polishing cycle.

it does get confusing and one mans cider is another mans cocktail, find what works for you.
Forums are very helpfull but they are also confusing with such an array of opinions on products, how they work and which ones are best.
 
Funny enough I've got the Meg's Smooth clay kit, so I give it a go, as I want to get some protection on as it looks like its been neglected. I'll post some pics when done.

Er - I hope you missed a stage there.

Clay doesn't add protection - it removes it!

You need to re-do it after claying.
 
Working by hand the AG SRP followed by AG EGP is fine and can be bought across the counter at Halfords and some supermarkets.

To be honest there are other hand polishes out there but as said you will never de-swirl a car by hand but can still achieve a good finish.

My car is work by hand in this order.

Clay -Sonus Green + Megs LT as lube
Polish- AG SRP
Seal- AG EGP
Wax- Victoria Concours

No haven't missed a stage, just got the car and the paint work hasn't been waxed in a while, a good wash, got some tar remover, then clay, polish aand finally a wax. Just want to get some good protection on asap. When I go home to Ireland next month I might take the car with me as the brother is a valeter funny enough, so he can do the machine polish.

Best advice, specially on dark colors! As for brand of polish, it has more to do with cutting level than anything. You get 15 posts, 15 different brands. By selecting one which has several cutting versions and choosing the one that meets your needs, you'll have done the right choice.

For a wax that is.... :D

Id go for UDS (Ultra Deep Shine) which is the super resin polish for dark colours, 2 coats then a coat of dodo juice purple haze.
 
I get great results using Autoglym high definition wax. Think its brilliant!

TBH i only wax, never polish.
 
Megs Gold Class gives an excellent glossy finish. I have spoken to a couple of pro detailers that have told me that all of the £30+ waxes on the market won't offer a significantly better finish than waxes in the Megs price range.

Ultimately it's all in the prep work.
 
Tried the new Megs ultimate wash and wax? Its not bad, and leaves a good finish

I binned a full tin of gold class as it was utterly useless.
I had better results from ag srp and thats saying something as I hate that stuff tbh.
Both were equally as dusty and did fill/mask scratches and swirls slightly and gave a minor amount of protection.
By hand its all in the technique and I found that dodo need for speed is an excellent all in one polish with carnauba content.
I mentioned prior to the megs system as it is a simple and good/effective system from halfords which still have the 3 for 2 offer on.
AG high definition wax, purple haze etc are wax only so will do nothing to increase the look of the car nor remove any markings as they are designed solely to protect the paint.
To get a perfect or close to looking car takes time and serious elbow grease or a fat wallet and a call to a pro.
