I am about to replace my phone. Can anyone tell me which, if any, connects directly into the car. I am not a 'Techy'

What do you mean by connects directly? Any modern phone with bluetooth should work for calls and audio.

If one of the apple phones connect via the centre console, I can use the music collection. At the moment I connect my iPod with a cable and then remove it for other use. Bluetooth works fine for calls and messages.

I have a clip in part in the arm rest which I thought was an adapter for a phone. On closer inspection, it is only a tray. Thanks for your comments.

My Samsung Galaxy works fine over Bluetooth. The phone is usually in a briefcase or jacket in the boot, incoming calls are answered from the button on the steering wheel and the phone's address book pops up on the Idrive screen when you need it.

You have to 'pair' it with the car initially - all explained reasonably clearly in the manual.

I had a Samsung Galaxy and although it worked in the Audi and Discovery 3, it dropped the bluetooth link the E89
The dealer loaned me a demo 3 series and it did the same.

At the time I was looking for a new phone and and loved the Samsung handset but as they would not help me sort the problem - I bought Apple. Now my wife and I have iPhones, iPads and an iMac.

They might have sorted the Bluetooth protocol now but their attitude/customer care means I'm an apple convert.

The iPhone, albeit a 5s, works without a hiccup!
