I am going to be servicing my 2.0 soon and wondering that now my zed is coming up to 170,000 (still pulling like a train  ) Would it be a good idea to put 10w30 in instead of 5w30? Thanks for any advice cos im not too sure.

Cheers, tug

At this mileage are you still on original valve stem seals and valvetronic motor?

Thanks both, yep original stem seals but 2nd VVT :)
Credit to you and previous owners for keeping your engine in fine fettle,I’m thinking of getting my ecu mapped because despite getting rid of all leaks and codes I’m still getting bad mpg.

Use 5.30 and add a tin of Wynn's. I have used Wynn's for years and whilst others would call it snake oil I have been very impressed with it reducing smoke and noise on high mileage cars

I was thinkin 5W40 mate, but have been told that 0W30 would be better as it is thinner which means during winter it would immediately hit the parts needed on winter cold start. Thanks for the help mates but oil is not my forte. I am slightly concerned bout my zed now she is gettin older and want the very best oil for her goin forward. Last service, i filled with Mobil 1 5W30 cost me £95 for 5L. So will only use the best i can get.

thanks for replies so far, but still not sure.

Cheers, tug

The 40 is actually thicker than the 30.
But most oil is now multi grade and covers a wide range of operating temperatures.
But as I said about I’d stick to the recommended 5w30 spec

Yes, really using thicker oil is for older engines if they are starting to burn a bit. If yours is still running as it should with no issues then why change anything. Stick with [ref]j3nks79[/ref]'s recommendation.

Thanks mates, you have made my mind up. I will stick with Mobile 1 5W30 this time. Just to say, my zed loses 1 bar on the electric dipstick in around 6 months of daily driving, only because there is a slight weep from the sump plug thanks to some TWAT! who i regret letting near my motor, not replacing the washer on the plug :headbang: I was too busy at the time to do it myself. And also, there is no smoke at all, so i believe the stem seals are still holding up.

Thanks all, appreciate all your replies, you have helped me, AGAIN! :)

Cheers, tug.
