Hi

I thought it would be handy to have an ODB2 scanner, but there are too many to choose from

has anybody bought one that works well that they would recomend?

cheers

Gary

I bought an Autel, Eu702, cost £169, it is a bit cheap and plastic, however it does turn out airbag lights and covers a lot of cars, gives out live data and looks at emissions. I have used it a couple of times on the Z, the wife's mini & my neighbours Skoda & Fiat and it seemed to work well. You can pay a lot more and I am sure there are better ones on the market, but it does what I need it to do so I am pleased with it.

The Peake Research Brand has a very good reputation and their BMW version is modern and complete.

are there a lot of benefits over buying just a reader like:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/CAN-Bus-Trouble-Diagnose-Diagnostic-Scanner/dp/B001CBBY7O/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1314623791&sr=8-5

would these cheap type read all the error codes ?

Ive had the DSC amber light pop up a couple of times, which Im hoping is just a sensor problem?

would the cheaper reader shown above point me in the right direction?

The Peake R5 doesn't work with Z4s despite what other sites may lead you to believe. Peake themselves told me after I bought one from Automart in the UK.

If Peake themselves told you, that's good info to know  such a hassle trying to return such a web purchase.

I got me one of these: U480 CAN-Bus OBDII OBD2 EOBD Trouble Code Read Diagnose Tester Diagnostic Scanner for under £25 and it works fine on my Z4 - resetting an intermittent gremlin I have with the Engine Management warning light.
