So as some of you may know, I'm having one or two issues getting 'Betty' up and running.
Somewhat disheartening as its only the third week of ownership after about 1000 miles of problem-free and enjoyable top-down motoring.
I'm in the process of eliminating the cause of the startup and splutter issue and I have a separate thread going here if anyone's interested:

However, when the recovery guy came to help me out from the middle of the woods the other day he used one of those handheld OBD diagnostic tools and reset the actual fault to get the motor running normally. Just wondering what he might have used to do that as my own OBD tool resets the codes but not the actual fault.
He must have recoded something with it to get it running cos when i got home and tried to start up again i had the same problem as before.
He wasn't the most affable or talkative of chaps unfortunately and seemed very guarded when I enquired about his handy little tool. I did see him scrolling through screen after screen to get to my particular make and model before he did whatever he did to make Betty spring into action again.
Managed to make it all the way home and motor didnt skip a beat but as I still have the problem I'm now trying to find out what the problem is before I accept defeat and take it off to the local indie.
So, chaps and chapesses, any idea what he might have been using? it was red in colour, largish colour screen and seemed to have every make and model of car and the ability to recode/ reset faults.
I've searched for threads here and most talk about basic readers and software/laptop configurations. (i dont have a laptop)
I'd love to get this issue sorted asap as Betty is sitting there in front of the house, rather forlorn, just waiting to be driven.
Any help id'ing this tool or any other suggestions would be eternally gratefully accepted. MachineMonkey has suggested replacing throttlebody so i have a 2nd hand one on order. a new battery is also on the way (bosch s5). i've already replaced lower cracked intake boot and cleaned the existing throttle body and ICV without any change to the problem.
