Trying to find an OBD cable to get the codes etc
there seems to be a variety of them on ebay with a huge range in price.
Anyone know of any good brands? (not expensive ones)

would this one work?

Wouldnt go there, I bought from these people, very simple install, very simple interface

thanks guys,

jaq03 another forum member recommended this one:

how do you reckon they differ in terms of interface. trying to figure out which one to buy basically.

Go for the cable shack one simple click installation and simple one click interface to run each of the programms, the other one refers to installation instructions which could well run to 55 odd pages and its a complete PITA.

Blimey, is this still going? Just get the blue one for cable shack, as said its one of the better offerings out there.

And yes, it covers E86 as well. Every BMW from 1998 can be worked on using this package.

Just remember that cable works with INPA as well as other BMW diag software.
It's a very useful tool, can be a bit of a pain to get working correctly, as you need to install the software on your laptop which really should be running a 32bit install of Windows, although it should work on 64bit ok.
If your a bit shy with computers it might not be the thing for you, if all you wanted was to read codes your probably better off getting a wifi/Bluetooth OBD dongle and a suitable app such as DashCommand on your phone, much more straightforward and user friendly and would read/clear codes.
iNPA isn't what I'd call user friendly but if your happy getting stuck in with these things then go for it, it's a great diagnostic tool.

So finally received the cable and installed a few programs including INPA.
I am trying to reset the airbag light (suspect its the seat sensor) but cant find it in the interface.
Also the exhaust emission light (engine light) is on which I suspect is because of the oxygen sensors but again cant find where I need to look for the relevant errors. Any ideas?

Oh man wish I saw this last week! I got one off Ebay, I don't doubt the software is there, but it's all Chinese :(
Game is hard!

I think I'll have to re purchase from these. They look great in terms of the installation

I have this package, it includes all nice software INPA, DIS, TIS etc.. and working cable.
Easy and simple next next next install.. :P
