Which model

I've got 3.0Si Coupe and I'm about to take delivery of 28i. I think it depends on what you are looking for.

Thought performance wasn't too different in a straight (ish) line. Obviously I've not got the car yet so not given it a proper bash. It's meant to have better MPG on paper - 40 on 28i and 30 on 3.0si (similar for 35is). In reality I normally manage 28-9mpg on my coupe with mixed town/non congested A road.

Off memory, between 35is and 28i, Tax was about £200/year different and insurance was £300 too. As I'm not rich and it's my daily car, these things are important for me.

What I tend to find is that I use about the same amount of fuel regardless of the engine as long as both cars have enough power that I never reach WOT.

VED is £245 more for the first year then £105 more for subsequent years. Insurance 35iS?... £193/year

I went for the 23i. It's quick enough for me. The 6-cyl sound can't be beat though. I've not tried the 28i but I drove a 528 (same 4-cyl turbo) and it's just not the same...

Ok school boy error, i thought the 23i was the 4cylinder engine and the 28i the 6 cylinder, logical i thought. what about resale which model is the most sought after ? Cheers

You may as well ask a group of Lads out on the lash which of the 20 girls in the swimsuit competition they fancy. You'll get many different answers for many different reasons and there's no right answer.

My previous was a e85 3.si sport roadster and given the e 89 is heavier they seem very similar I reckon resale would favour 2.31 imho.

The combination of road & track advanced driving certificates seems to make insurance premiums plummet when one looks towards performance cars. As a general rule the cheaper & slower the car the more I pay. :scratchhead:

Yeah, this has been bugging my parents for the last few years.

Hence I tend to stick with the lot I'm with now in the hope that it will remain a sensible option in the future.

Shop around every year, at minimum every other year. I end up with the same company but at a much lower number than their first quote (which is usually +25-50% the previous year). It does annoy me that I have to do it though.

They don't appreciate any loyalty!

I won't be getting near to the sub £200 quotes, but as I'm now around the £300-£350 mark for a brand new sports car, with 2 of us insured in a sensible burb of London I'm very happy.

I still remember paying £1,500 for my first Toyota Celica (with 2 years NCB).
