Which Lowering Springs...

...are you guys running on?!

I'm looking at Eibach, WeiTec, PI, and a couple of others...

Cant set my heart on which one is the one to get! Does it really make a difference?! I know that some springs are hard etc. But is branding a big thing to think about?! I guess what I'm asking is are the Eibachs worth £50 more than the WeiTec?

I’ve not had experience of Eibach on Z4’s but have on other vehicles and yes, I’d say they’re worth the extra £££. Eibach have a great name and reputation compared to the other brands you mention, plus they can be had for £152.50 from Larkspeed delivered. I wouldn’t say it’s a question of branding, just a question of best quality.

I've had Eibach before and also KW on my last car, to be honest, the only difference I found was the KW's lowered my car a little more!

I'm probably going to go the Eibach route, but just wondering if anyone has springs from companies such as WeiTec, PI, Spax, Apex...

What are you looking for from springs? Better handling or purely cosmetic?

Apex were horrific on my Clio – but again I can’t comment on a Z4 application. They were incredibly harsh and gave a very crashy ride but they did drop my Clio by a genuine (quoted) 40mm and looked amazing. Which, being honest, was all that mattered to me when I was much much younger and naïve ).

And remembering back, the Eibach Pro’s had a reputation for barely lowering the Clio (they actually raised the rear of Clio 172 Cups very slightly). From what I’ve found by searching on here, Eibachs only lower a Z4 by 10-15mm at very most. I’m considering Eibachs to replace the snapping BMW springs but am not keen on the car being any lower than it already is as standard…

If am honest I own a VXR and now a 3.0si! I guess I'm going to miss my Modded VXR so trying to make the Z4 to have everything the VXR had and more!

I'm only really looking for the car to be lower and for the ride to be a little stiffer, so when I corner there is less body roll! I dont really mind a hard ride, as the VXR is harder than standard anyways so I'm used to it, and at 24 I'm still young so having a back back isnt a concern HAHAHAHA!

I have fitted the PI lowering spring kit which has a 30mm drop all round.Excellent quality and fitment. The car sits and drives perfectly, definately worth doing especially to get rid of the horrible OEM springs that tend to snap!

Hi AL,

Car looks great! I was swaying away from PI as no one seemed to have much good to say about them LOL! So no rubbing or anything then? How long have you had them fitted?! Where did you purchase from?! Did you fit them yourself?!

Regards,
Tom

I used H&R springs on my 330. They seemed to work well and lowered the car nicely. Don't know how they are on the Z4 though.

I've used PI springs before and never had a problem with them. I bought mine from a local(ish) car factor for a reasonable cost.Yes i did fit them myself, easy job to be honest if you have any kind of mechanical knowhow.

Thanks for the info AL! I've fitted springs before on me VXR, but had to get a Garage to fit the front as I was unable to get the springs and shocks away from the car! The way they are fitted was nothing like I'd ever seen! They have like these plastic clips holding everything together!!!

Anyways PI Springs Ordered!!!

Thanks,
Tom

Nice one, let me know how you get on? Rears really are simple, you just need to undo the rear shock lower bolt and then push down the rear arm to remove the spring. If you have someone to remove the spring as you press down on the rear arm then you don't need spring clamps.Fronts are slightly harder to do as you need to remove the complete unit (shock and spring), you'll probably find the stabiliser link rod nut spins rather than loosens but don't worru as you can hold it with a spanner from behind. The rest should come undone ok just use some WD40 or other release agent, word of advice before you remove the complete unit at the strut tops, loosen the top damper nut slightly just to get it moving as off the car these can just spin with the damper assembly.
