Which lawn mower

A little advice needed. My lawn mower, twenty years old has just given up. I am probably going to get a new electric one due to the weight (age thing). Average size lawn. Which one do I buy?

One of the best things I've ever bought is a petrol Honda, this is my second in 20 years. They are heavy but with a rear roller and a drive system a 70+ manages OK, gives a good 'stripey' finish too.

If you're looking electric, the Grizzly erm1844 is a great machine. Bought it from Costco in April and it does everything you would need. Just looked online and it's £150 delivered, I would have thought at this time of year you could do better - under €100 from Germany!

+ 1, The honda engines are so reliable and easy to work on, I'm 60 plus and dont have a problem with it

I inherited a Honda petrol when we moved into our new place a month ago. Our garden is above average in size (about a third of an acre) but the mower actually makes it a pleasure to do.

If you're buying used check the service history and handling.

Mine would fail on both

Oil change once every three years when I think of it and replace parts when they break …

I use a Bosh cordless which is really good. Light enough to carry up/down steps, long charge life, and rear roller for stripes.

Look at blmra.co.uk - my son has much more fun racing them

Thanks for all the info. I guess I need to check on "Indy servicing" before final decision. B&Q on a Wednsesday looks favourite for the purchase.

I would rather have a petrol mower than an electric any day, could not cope with the wire.

Ashame you are not closer as I have a spare one here (got 90 hours on it).

Honda petrol- starts everytime and never let us down. Petrol mowers pick up so much more, you will be amazed at how often you have to empty the bag. But your lawn will look so much better for it.

Obviously that went over your head

have two - Suffolk Punch and a McCulloch (this one). Tried electric ones and hovers, and would definitely go for a petrol every time. Suffolk is like having a workout every time, McCulloch is a lot easier (self propelled) but has no roller.

Yeah, I do my B&Q shopping on a Wednesday as well  We use a Bosch electric we bought from there about 15 years ago on offer and it's still going strong. I've just sharpened the blade up a few times but it's given no trouble at all, It's really light too, even the missus can use it ok.

The petrol vs electric issue is not that straightforward. I've got both, the petrol is good for the flat surfaces with little obstruction, but an electric hovermower wins out for slopes and fiddly little bits around trees etc.

I bought both from B&Q (on a Wednesday), can't miss out on senior citizens discount day!

I bought this one a few months ago when it was on offer at £98. It's a dream to use.
