Which go-pro to go for?

Hi guys,

I am looking for some advice on the go-pro cameras please. I have started go karting recently are really getting in to it. I will also be hitting the mountain bike trails when spring decides to appear. So I'm looking into getting a go-pro camera to record some of the footage.

Does anyone on here have one that could recommend me on a particular model?

I was looking on ebay at some second hand ones and looking at about £120-£150 for one with a bit of kit with it. Is this about right?

Are the cheapish helmet cameras a decent enough option instead of this?

In short, any advice on these things would be great!

Cheers,
Mo

Just to make things more complicated, I'd suggest that Go Pro is not the only answer.

It does almost always win the group tests for picture quality, but there are other options that are sometimes half the price.

I've been using a Muvi Veho for a while which does a similar job (1080p etc). And now Sony have launched a helmet cam that's getting good reviews (particularly for low light)

Muvi: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Veho-VCC-005-MUVI-HD10-Handsfree-Camcorder-Control/dp/B004AP9FSE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1363606443&sr=8-3

Sony: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0093X37JG/ref=asc_df_B0093X37JG12422842?smid=AIT0XSGQMA6PO&tag=hydra0b-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22242&creativeASIN=B0093X37JG&hvpos=1o2&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13092946221269376560&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=

Whichever one you get, you will end up spending quite a bit more on the accesories...

No worries. Not trying to put you off it, like I said it always wins the group tests (although the last test I saw on Gadget show didn't include that Sony)

I think the only negative of the Go-Pro is the cost (and subsequent cost of accessories)

........ and the rubbish battery life
........ and the software ......

I bought the "Black" for use at the race track, all looks good and wonderfull, but when you go on their own forum, they even say themselves that it works best, if you dont use this option or dont use that, or dont download to your PC through the wire and the list goes on...

Brilliant machine but still very beta if you know what I mean.

Bit like when I bought the Tom Tom live some time back and found out that the software wouldn't be released for another year :D

yeah, I've actually came across a few people that have said the software and customer service are a bit dodgy :/

Cheers MalcMac, I'll have a look!

I bought a gopro black just because I had used the hero two and liked it. To be honest I didn't look at any of the competitiors as I was pushed for time before my boarding trip this year.

The wifi remote is a knob to pair up with it and paying out for the accessories does make it all very expensive for what it is. I get the feeling in a couple of years these tiny sports cameras will be really good.

A hero 2 should be a good buy second hand I would have tought. Don't worry too much about the 1080 full blown as you usually end up scaling it down anyway so you can film for longer. Still looks great.

This is my first video attempt just last month, never had it set to full frames per second or anything. Get cheap batteries from eBay, lots of them! Nothing worse than seeing the low batt sign when your on it :x
