Which gen ULF for iPhone

I am in the middle of sourcing parts to retrofit bluetooth to my 53 reg.

Which gen ULF or build date of ULF do I need for the system to be compatible with my iPhone?

not sure how accurate that list is, cos my phone (Sony w880i) works ok with the system in mine (wouldnt say fully but enough to make and receive calls) but that site reckons it should only be limited from 09/07 as well.... mine is an Apr04 build car :?

When I was purchasing ULF's on Ebay I noticed a couple of people had upgraded to the latest 13th generation selling off their earlier gens to get iPhone compatibility. That said in the few days I had my iphone I connected it paired it to a 12th Gen. made and received calls but no address book transfer.

I had a 9th Gen in my previous Z4 and it wouldn't work at all,
It would pair fine, I "think" the address book was fine,

But when you took a call it would drop the bluetooth connection, I called BMW and they told me the ULF modules were missing "something" the BMW assist modules had that the iPhone needed,

I spoke with Martin at bimmernav and he told me the 13th gen works perfect and the generations before that were touchy, esp the 9th (which annoyed me as I bought the 9th when it just came out and was told the same thing about previous gens)

So I thought bugger spending more money on another ULF, and I bought an M roadster instead :P

Thankfully the iPhone works perfect with the M but that doesn't help you out sadly :(

Starscreams post just further confirms a belief I have and have posted previously that pairing phones to ULF's is a huge lottery.

There are 13 generations that can be fitted from 2003 to date with considerable overlap in production and install. Not all phones are compatible and compatibility comes and goes for a given phone over generations, hence someone with around a Gen 3 pairs to an iphone a 9th does not, but a 13 does... :headbang:

My only concrete way of proving things work is test pairing of an individual phone with a known ULF set up

BTW you can as far as I know only buy a Gen 1 direct from BMW in the US - strange but appears to be due to clearing old stock first. All others are Ebay, upgrades or breakers.
