Which European Brakedown cover?

Hi all,

I'm taking the M3 to the south of France for a week at the end of the month and will be needing some brakedown cover.

I'm looking for some recommendations on who offers the best comprehensive cover whilst traveling in Europe and would handle a brakedown in the correct matter.

Always difficult to advice on as it is only as good as when you need it.

I have always had Green Flag (as it is included in my credit card), but can not state if they are any good or not ...
 
I had AA European , it alloŵed a couple of vehicle changes per year , and when I needed it , I must admit , it was faultless , they even sent taxis to move us from initial breakdown point to the next town where the pick up had to be repaired and forward booked the hotel , they even let me change hotels to somewhere nearer the town centre , not that it was such a good thing , we spent 3 nights in the commercial shithole that is vierzon :lol: . It wasn't the cheapest at a couple of hundred quid a year but I spend more time than most driving abroad , so i thought it was money well spent .
Just read terms and conditions before you pay , cheapest is cheap for a reason .
 
Hi guys . .
When we go over to Europe we go through the tunnel as we take our yorkie with us .
We use eurotunnel themselves.
motor breakdown cover plus .
This includes £500 parts and labour if
the car Breaks down .
It is the aa but costs more if you
Buy direct from them .
 
Claimed through Greenflag , RAC & also Barclays Additions (twice) :oops:
Had 4 breakdowns in France over 20 yrs ( 7yrs ago the last so must be due one :oops: ) & virtually any UK company you use will just send a remote self employed agent out who will make no attempt to repair the car , simply remove it to nearest garage with repair facility
What I would make sure is included is adequate cover for hotels , definitely make sure a replacement vehicle is included as they never rush to fix the car so continuing a holiday in a hire car is always a option & also costs to rebook crossing should you need it

Just back from the French Alps in the 320 touring. We had RAC cover but never had the need to use it.

Take sun cream though, its hot down there and happy driving. Top tip is to buy a Liber-T tag for the peage's, it made the journey so much easier and I suspect about and hour quicker!!

is it just for people who live in France?
 
Sorted out the Breakdown cover,

Went with Eurotunnel directly in the end as it was half the price of AA, RAC etc

They have a deal with the AA and offered me a good level of cover for an excellent price and because its through the AA i'm hoping it will be a good service should I need to use it.

FYI

Nationwide Flexplus account gives you

Mobile Phone Insurance - for 4 phones if a joint account to cover you, your partner and 2 kids. Excess is low too. I think I paid £25 to have my Xperia Z3 repaired.

Breakdown cover - for you and your partner throughout UK and Europe if a joint account. I've used this about 20 times in the past year (don't ask). So it's paid for itself.

Travel Insurance - for you and your partner if a joint account throughout the world including the stuff you normally pay extra for like USA and Canada, etc.

Extra 1 year warranty on household goods bought brand new in the UK

All of this is £10 per month. If you stick £2500 in the account you get about £6.25 interest a month meaning it's less than £4 a month for all of the above. It's equivalent of paying £1 per month for each service.

Also if you open one of these accounts and I refer you we both get £100 credited to our banks, if your interested in the above ridiculously good deal then send me a message to arrange it. Need to set it up before you apply.

Is it cheaper? I doubt it, it is toll roads we are talking about after all.

It works with a little transponder in the windscreen. Approach the Peage, it chirps, the gate opens and off you go. You then get billed at the end of the month by DD from your bank account.

It is run by Sanef UK. Although I think they may have just changed companies.

It is so very easy if you are on a long drive south. I don't think we actually stopped at any Peage and it is a lot less hassle than dealing with money and/or people. It is really easy to see which lane to be in - any lane - as they have a nice clear T above. Honestly, I think we saved a good half hour or more not having to faff about with cash and trying to get close enough to the machine.

Out of interest, we went through 15 tolls there, during and back.

All the toll booths take cards these days , pop it in and it charges you and off you go , no need for PIN number , they also take cash and give change , just like self service tills in supermarkets . I can't remember the last time I actually paid a member of staff at a toll booth .
 
Just bought RAC comprehensive plus. At 140 a little expensive but it was cheaper and better than AA and green flag. Considering it's our honeymoon road trip and covering 5K miles in 3 and a bit weeks I don't want a broken down zed to ruin it. We'll get a replacement car and will be able to carry on.
