Which Dash Cam?

Hi,

I’ve searched the forum, but struggling to find a specific thread on this;

I’m looking for a front facing cam, want to spend up to £150 (fitted), although may fit myself.

Need it to have good night vision, and be able to record if there is activity when parked.

Any advice appreciated

My wife and I have had a number of dashcams over the years. Avoid the £30 cheap Chinese cameras sold at petrol stations. We have had 3 and none lasted longer than 6 months.
In our experience the Nextbase 402G Professional gives a very clear recording. It has a 140 degree viewing angle, motion detection and is also suitable for night use. Have a look at the specification and reviews on Amazon. The price is well within your budget.

I have received an e-mail from Halfords. They are giving a discount of 20% on certain Nextbase dashcams. This may or may not be cheaper than Amazon. Halfords also have a fitting service. This is not a recommendation for Halfords as I bought ours on Amazon and fitted them myself.

I need to replace my mini0806. Really liked it, so the mini0906 is the front runner for me. Pretty good value at <£100 for front and rear with decent sensors.

[ref]MrPT[/ref], looks good... so u have a Zed? How you mounting the rear cam?

Not sure yet. I guess fold back the roof lining and stick it to the middle of the rear window using the supplied plastic wedges to set the angle correctly. I already have power from behind the lights above the rear view mirror. The front camera mount is tucked up against the mirror so the wires are hidden by the mirror fairing.

I have the nextbase 212. Very happy with it, has a good parking mode which can be set at varying levels of sensitivity, it doesn't have GPS which is a bonus for me as it means it won't track speed. Night video is very clear in my opinion as is the day mode.
I did cover the silver piece on the front with some black insulation tape and it looks very stealth, it is hardly noticeable now when left in the car.

This is one of the best sellers over the world, I had it in my E90 and the picture quality is perfect. It cost only ~30 pounds.

G1W-CB or G1W-H, doesn't really matter (H version has 140 degree viewing angle)

I picked up a Garmin 480, it is a dual cam but after seeing it and using it I’m sure that a single cam by them would be fine. And cheaper too.
Mine has parking mode, wide angle and is clear as a bell in HD.

I’ve gone for the 0906. Will need to change the current hardwire from ignition-switched to always-on in order to use the parking guard. This is a feature that looks to be much improved from the previous model.

£82. Will report back once it’s fitted. :)

Please mount it properly and don't be one of those kn0bs that puts it in the middle of the windscreen half way between the rear view mirror and the dash...then leaves the screen on all the time!

Well, I purchased the wife a Nextbase 512 -and not impressed, looks ugly and quality is not that great.

However, I really rate my thinkware; https://www.spesa.co.uk/products/thinkware-f770-2ch-front-and-rear-dash-cam-drive-recorder-full-hd-1080p-wifi-gps?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=googlepla&variant=6364054093852&gclid=CjwKCAjw8r_XBRBkEiwAjWGLlKx87qhXH68SMFMW-g3_CQGgyJNTWTh1aMP9PbQeoxgY-v6oxivO8BoCfRcQAvD_BwE

I watched TechMoans videos on YouTube. He reviewed a range of dashcams. I bought one for all our cars.
It records in Full HD, and the image is perfect day and night. It is supposedly one of the smallest on the market too,
and fits snuggly behind the rear view mirror. Do a search on ebay for 0906 Dash Cam and check out TechMoans
YouTube video reviews.

I had the mini0906 which was okay ,but I have replaced it with the garmin 55 ,It has a much clearer picture and is Wi-Fi connected .

Have you ditched the rear camera then?

I have the mini 0801 and was tempted to replace it with the 0906.
The 0801 was cheap and is still going but I would like a rear mounted camera as well.

Are dash cams targets for thieves?

Technically, any object is a target for tea-leaves!

When I had a TomTom Satnav I would never leave it mounted when leaving the car, but it hasn't concerned me with my dash cam. Mine is quite discrete though, and stuck onto the screen, not one of the ones with the suction type mounts.

I spent a lot of time on a dash cam forum and never read anything about thefts.
