Which cheap car jack to keep in boot?

Not had an issue but I just have standard suspension. My hydraulic jack can be a bit tight but I do put a rubber block in the socket to protect it.

What size space saver do you have bladeowner?

It's 125/80/17 I got a 17" just in case I ever wanted to put bigger discs on.

Hmm, that's an interesting point. . .
1. Can one be carried in the boot of an M with the battery positioned as it is :? and
2. will a 17" clear the M disc brake? :?

Diameter is more or less the same as standard wheel - my spacesaver is 63cm diameter. The 17" space saver has lower profile tyres and so the wheel well is bigger - more useful for storage. The internal wheel well diameter is 39cm. clearance will depend on size of caliper.

3 series jack and 16inch space saver live in my boot but I also carry the strip type puncture repair kit.And yes the 16inch wheel does fit.

For a 3.0 you need a 17in space saver.

Normal 17" wheels will not fit an M as they won't clear the front brakes. Maybe the rears too, don't know. Not sure if a space saver has more clearance - arent space savers just steel wheels that bolt on the hub, so clearance of the brakes may not be an issue ?

On Tuesday, I get new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ 225/45R17 (Non Run=Flat) installed. I keep a 12V air compressor in the trunk which needs almost no space, a cell phone in my pocket, plus, in my wallet I have a credit card and a CAA auto club card for free towing. I have had slow leaks in the driveway but no flats on the highway since 1984 when my big old Pontiac slid off a snowy road into the ditch, pulling the tire off the rim in the process. I am looking forward to the improved ride and handling with the new tires (sorry: tyres) and will take my chances without a jack or repair goo in the trunk (sorry: boot)

Whether it will clear an M's brakes, I don't know but if normal 17" wheels don't then I guess the space saver probably won't.

Looks like I'm stuck with the repair kit (have the inflation kit and just bought one of the strip sets) - going further afield and would welcome the chance to continue the journey just wondered about carrying a spare - no chance really in the M.
An issue not mentioned is carrying the wheel with the flat! I'm sure Steph would get sick of it on her knee whilst we found a tyre centre

Boot re-shuffle should do it (can't comment for the M but yes battery may take up too much space)! In any eventuality its something to get you out of a tight spot.
