Which catless downpipes..?

Bonjourno,

Which catless downpipes do you chaps in the know recommend for the 35is? I’m looking at the VRSF ones but wondered if there was a definite sway towards anything else. I’m wary of Chinese stuff, I don’t want them cracking, but having said that I’ve no experience of them either. I’d much rather pay good money for top quality pipes than skimp on quality.

Any thoughts..?

Good question John
Will watch this with interest, what are the benefits from these ? And , Does it still pass mot ok with these ??

They free up the restrictive OEM pipes Dave giving better spool up for the blowers plus a better exhaust note for us chavs..... . The car has secondary cats so no problems with the MOT.

Thanks John , please keep me posted as to what and where you get . Possibly my next mod 😬 and of course some pictures of the new exhaust, or video would be better.... I couldn’t get a video from mine that did it any justice, hopefully you do better

Just checked Supersprint but they are coming in at nearly £2,000!

Alternatively you could find an exhaust fabricator and get them to make you one...

Yep pretty pricey granted..!!

Lifetime warranty though, and if they give the results without cracking issues they’re worth a thought...

Just a company I found on line they seem to do some high class work.
Not a reccomendation from me do your own research, not a million miles from you.

Cheers Jim. Hope all is well with you.

AR, and Wagner also do down pipes for the N54. How ever they are considerably more expensive than the VRSF. Not sure if Wagner do a specific downpipe for the Z4's, I know AR do

Pretty nervous with the Chinese ones I have to be honest Sunny, I don’t want them cracking, but on the other hand I’ve no experience with any of them so......

@Nick9One1 purchased some chinese downpipes from here:https://www.aliexpress.com/item/135...lgo_pvid=0954b3f5-7b2f-43f1-bb70-aa5c91040128

His thread is here: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=110145&hilit=downpipes

Probably worth getting in touch and see how he is getting on? I believe I had to rotate the flanges on the existing exhaust for the DP's to fit as well.

Edit: VRSF have a good reputation from what I have read, the N54 down pipes have good reviews.

You need downpipes designed for the Z4. Any non Z4 specific N54 downpipes will need cutting and re-welding to fit.

With RHD drive models there is also very little clearance so it pays to get a known working solution like VRSF. It took me a couple of attempts to get the fitment perfect. First time around the downpipes were making contact with a bolt on the engine mounts.

Why n ot remove the current pipes and hack out the contents of the cat so you have a straight through pipe, that'll cost you nowt :-)
