It's impossible to get a true consensus of opinion I would say, as there are so many differences, driving styles, requirements, costs, looks etc etc.

How many of us have a one car garage?

The new M4 is a moderate performance boost vs a E92 M3 in stock form. But the real benefit of the new M3/4 comes when you start tuning them.

There's already been some work done by the likes of BMS who have provided a port of their JB4 piggyback solution from the N54 to the S55 engine. Once tuned the car is capable of an 11.1s 1/4 mile which puts it in a whole new league.

Once people start putting some serious development into a full ECU tune the car will move on again, likely into 10 second 1/4mile times. I personally wouldn't let a piggyback near any of my cars but it just shows what the engine is capable of and that it's more than the standard 6cyl engine found in the 35i/40i models.

The E92 came after a string of cars, two E46 M3's, an E36 Evo, E39 M5 and E30 M3 (god I wish I had kept that), as well as several 911's both air cooled and water cooled. So I have pretty decent experience of high-performance cars. The E92 was the most disappointing car I have had in years, I really wanted to love it, and the engine was a beauty, but the car was just too heavy and unwieldy. Too far away from the core values a real drivers car should have. Oh and I have had an M4 for a couple of days recently, now that is much better!

On another note, we've got the E89 and M235i which are current production cars and then we have the old M3, why not the M4?

The idea of me choosing these 3 cars for my poll are that they are possible replacements for my Zed in a couple of years. I didn't include an M4 as that would be out of my budget
