I'm a few days away from doing the NC500 for my 40th birthday and I'm not sure which car to take. I'm in a lucky position where I have the choice of 3. Each has their own pros and cons. I'm genuinely interested which one people would take. I'm setting off from North Wales.

Z4 Coupe - most fun and fastest to drive but very low and will be carrying a lot of weight so not the comfiest ride. Also will look epic in the pics.

Z4 Roadster - not lowered and gives access to all that sky but not overly quick (2.5 prefacelift) and likely to be very cold at this time of year. No cruise control.

Both Zeds will mean a sacrifice on the amount of stuff we can take due to limited boot space.

Focus ST Line X - all the modern toys, loads and loads of room, very comfy but not very fast...and it's not a Zed.
 
I voted coupe, but immediately changed my mind! Roadster gives you the option of roof down, and while there are some epic, fast roads, you wont be 'on it' all the time. Get the roof down when you can, heater on and drink in the scenery.
Oh and get onto Skye if you can too.

That's kind of my thinking, I'm trying to work out how much opportunity there will be 'on it' like you said.
 
I did some of it last week and a couple of days glorious sunshine a couple of days p!shing it down.

Even on the wet days still got the roof down for some of the day so I’d say roadster :thumbsup:

Thanks buddy. How busy was it up there? Expecting it to be chokka with everyone doing staycations atm.
 
If the forecast isn't great I'd just take the Coupe!

Because it is a Z4, and it's a 3.0Si. :lol:
 
I'm torn, the Coupe is the one I'd want to be seen in...but the Roadster gives you some flexibility if the sun did come out. But I'm a big Ford fan so I'd probably end up taking the Focus instead! :D
 
I’d take the Focus as you’ll probably be stuck behind something most of the time and have nowhere to overtake anyway.

And if you do bin it, it’s only a Focus :P

Roadster for the NC. It’s very rare that the weather is consistently sh!te. If it’s sh!te and changeable you’ll want to drop the roof and take in the other three quarters of the view!

Most of the good roads are of the long, sweeping variety (Scotsburgring being a notable exception!) so having something that handles like a go cart isn’t essential. The overtaking point is a good one, but you can also make swifter progress by getting good at using the passing places.

It wasn’t too busy tbh, I wasn’t stuck behind anything for too long. The drive from Fort William to Inverness (and return) was busier than anything I experienced further up and on the run to Skye

The roadster gives you a much better opportunity to see the scenery
 
We were up that way in early September and opted to take the Alpina. If the forecast had been for consistently bad weather it would have been the coupe. Every day it rained but on everyday except the Thursday it stopped and we managed to get the roof down which all adds to the experience with such scenery around you. Have a good trip. :thumbsup:

Thanks for the input, I've watched a few videos on YouTube and it does seem like you said, mostly sweeping roads which the 2.5 should be able to handle fine. :thumbsup:

Thanks fella, I'm expecting it to pizzle down a fair bit given we're going later in the year...but hoping that will keep the midges to a minimum!
