Which cable K-Line, DCAN or other?

Hi Guys I'm a noob to the forum and to owning a zed so here goes…

So recently bought a 57 plate E85 2.0ltr M sport the car is great but I think i have the dreaded transport mode issue as mentioned in a few other places on here. i’m 99% sure its in transport mode as I had to replace the battery due to low voltage and when i bought the car the guy had to boost it. so on further research I started reading about ODB, INPA, DIS, etc… Being a software developer and not too shy with tech I decided to try and remove, delete or switch off this transport mode myself. In my naivety I ordered this cable of amazon…

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01DGZCJA4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Now after god knows how many attempts at installing the software and getting everything set up I'm beginning to think i might have ordered the wrong cable!

The confusion for me is coming from a change in cables by BMW in 2007. So my car is a 57 plate and i think it’s production is 03/2007 but not 100% sure on that. on cable-shack.co.uk line is for cars built car between 07/2000 and 02/2007 and DCAN is for cars built between 07/2000 and 2014 (E series models) the Zed being an E85 does that mean its an E series model? :? and will the K+DCAN cable i have bought work with my car? :?

Any info would be greatly appreciated - i’ve spent weeks trying to figure this out and remove the transport mode but to no-avail… :x :x :x

Thats what i have (i think) silver K+DCAN INPA Compatible but when I try and run diagnostics in the DIs software it says something like can not communicate with head :? It doesn't have a switch on it like some of the others either. If i can be sure i have the right cable then i can start looking at the software setup and configuration side of thing again. I just want to be sure the cable is right before wasting hours with software...

Have you set the lead into the correct mode? From memory, you need to connect it to the car, making sure the mode switch is in the correct position, and then within 30 seconds run the DOS program on the disc to set the mode and COM port, otherwise the PC won't see it.

You can get the same cable for little over $12 (so about 10quid) on ebay/aliexpress..
Installing the software and most of all using it has a bit of a learing curve. Its not ment as a consumer product.

I bought a lead similar to the one you have and had the same problem. Bought another with the physical switch on it and all is well.

Thanks for all your comments guys

I seem to have made a bit more progress after having another bash at it last night…

I reinstalled windows7 32bit, previously had a 64bit install and I reinstalled all the software that came with the cable. It seems that instead of a physical switch on the cable there is a small application which adds the DCAN capability and i’m now able to communicate with the car! I couldn’t get the DIS software to work but at least i know the cable works :D

I couldn't see anything about transport mode anywhere in INPA software but didn’t play around with it for long but will have another look soon. :driving:

I had to join pins 7 and 8 together with that same K+DCAN cable to get ISTA+ to work.

Works well now though!

I tried that but got no joy either - did you use the software switch? i think this does this for you(maybe :? )...
Going to have another bash at it tomorrow :D
