Which Brake Pads are you guys using...?

Hi All,

I've got a new set of discs to fit this week, but had a decision to make on the pads. I'm unlikely to be tracking the car any time soon, and if I do, it will just be for a few laps 'just because', so not needing any proper pads, just for road use....

I was looking on ECP website and see Brembo and Pagid pads. Now, me being old fashioned typically assume the more expensive is better... Brembo £35 and Pagid £72. I have picked up the Pagid in the meantime....

The discs I have are genuine BMW, and know our generation of cars would have had ATE as standard pads, has anyone used either of the Brembo or Pagid 'standard' compound pads for general day to day...?

Either brembo or Pagid will be perfectly fine imo :) I've tracked my old 3.0si on brembos before (stock discs and calipers), and whilst the pedal went a bit longer after a while they were still perfectly up to the job, and performed faultlessly on the road

I use Endless MX72+ for hard street use. The best pads I've ever had and I run them on three cars.
Amazing performance, silent, no excessive or toxic dust, great durability too and worth every penny.

The pagid/brembo stuff supplied by ecp is absolute shite, stay well away imo. They are most likely a downgrade on FF friction levels the stock pads are. It is well known that it's not the same stuff that pagid or brembo would supply as OE to a manufacturer and is most likely manufactured under license.
Personally I would buy ATE/Textar(I think this is the OE supplier)/Pagid from autodoc where they at least show pictures of the pads clearly enough that you can see the friction rating. FF oem, upgrades go from GG.

Hi Tom,

I agree that typically aftermarket/parts 'place', parts/pads are not up to the OEM standards, however the Pagid pads I picked up are coefficient GF so a higher than the standard compound FF. I am not worried that much by outright performance which I should have clarified, just general day to day feel/bite and durability.

The ATE pads are GG as standard, so pretty much the same as the Pagid, and the difference would be negligible on the road. The first letter as you'll know represents the performance at cold temperatures, so the Pagid is arguably up the scale a little cold, second letter once up to temperature so within the same region of scale.

I've probably answered my own question really following on from your feedback, I'll stick the Pagids in.

Good, I'm sure they'll be fine then. I'm always weary these days of buying anything from ecp really, the quality of after market stuff seems to be going pretty south generally:(

I am using EBC Red Stuff Pads for fast road use and I am happy with them. They produce a similar amount or slightly less dust than the Ate Pads I removed from my car, but provide better performance (don't fall apart for one... see my post on the 2nd of March) and the dust they do produce is somehow much easier to rinse from the wheels.

They do take ages to bed in though.

I use those pads on my Solstice coupe and have been quite happy with them.

Do they have good bite when cold / wet, and do they have cutouts for the wear sensors (not a dealbreaker, just curious).

Textar / ATE / Zimmerman / Brembo in that order ..imho

Especially if you want cold weather / wet good initial bite..

Every pad is a trade off..pads with high friction tend not to bite when cold ..street pads fade under track abuse..

.... And ones which bite from cold and have epic fade resistance cost a fortune and absolutely chew your discs!
