Which Bluetooth/Parrott unit to go for ???

Im contemplating fitting a Parrott unit in the Zed and dug up a previous old thread,

Im not keen on loads of bolt on, non-OEM kit all over the dashboard, so I'd appreciate your up to date comments/recommendations, and any possible photos of neat installs and how best to locate the devices discreetly.

Im Considering either the MKi9000 which would be totally invisible, but do fancy a small screen somewhere (I've not got a Sat Nav Screen) for navigating the music menu, (9100) especially if I can just plug a USB in, like in my 5 Series.

Im wondering if the MKi9100 screen would fit in the ash tray compartment if I took the liner out, but stil leave me the cover flap to hide everything when parked...

Any Advice and Pics would be helpful please ?
 
The 9100i screen does fit into the ash tray, I used the insert for assisting in fixing the display :thumbsup:

I have now moved my screen as wanted the tray for coins!

I've hidden my 9100 screen in the glove box! I should of got the 9000i (no screen) as I dont use it but it needs to be connected for the parrot kit to work, also I don't use the controller as I have a additional parrot module to use the MFSW controls :thumbsup:

Like you, I don't want stuff stuck to my dash, I've also mounted the microphone within the overhead map light unit so that's not on show either! :D

Get this cable so all works via AUX http://www.justcarkits.co.uk/acatalog/info_84099AUX.html use this instead of the parrot loom :thumbsup:
 
I have a Parrott in the Polo and was amazed that it also reads out the satnav instructions if you use Google maps for routing on your iPhone. The Polo is flimper spec so no satnav, but it was weird the first time that it started giving instructions via the speaker!

I use that function too seems to only work with apple maps for me.. :thumbsup:

Ive not got a MFSW (yet) so thats not an option but I understand the 9100 allows you to plug in a USB stick for Music, so I reckon Im going to need some sort of screen for that menu. Im tempted to go for the 9200 so that the screen and combined controller can all go in the ash tray but the £180 I was quoted for the 9000 (installed) is slowly climbing to £240 for the 9200.

Ideally I dont want to get drawn into loads of mods on this car, as its high mileage, so Id rather make do for a year or so and upgrade to a 3.0L with higher spec, next year maybe, now I know I enjoy the Z4 and am more knowledgable on what features I'd like next time.

Has anyone got any pics of the display screens or controllers in situ ?
 
I have the mki9000 as I didn't want the mki9200 screen. I also have a cradle that I can charged phone in and use the phone screen to control my music and use sat nav too. I felt the Z4 dash was too small for a mki9200 screen.
 
Yeah, Ive got the Brodit cradle for my iPhone5 and have this afternoon fitted the Aux lead (£8) into the back of the head unit, that now goes into the iPhone, so I now have music (and to an extent phone through the speakers!)

However, I think maybe, the music on a Memory stick and bluetooth to the phone in my pocket rather than in the cradle, would be a far less cluttered look, but am still undecided.

To be honest I would go for the module that plugs into the cd changer connections...

Dice media bridge... Worth looking into and less wiring and the display comes up on the standard headunit :)

For £190 the Dice Media bridge may be the answer.
Only £10 more than the basic Parrot but with no messy add ons and text display via the head unit.

Anyone else fitted the Dice unit on a Zed with box standard radio and no MFSW that can vouch for it ?
 
Personally I wouldn't.

Sound quality is awful from them (if using the built in amplifier.

You could get around this by adapting the parrot kit to run on the aux in of your car's stereo (effectively bypassing the Parrot's amp)

The downside is you'll lose the convenience of it muting whatever you're listening to (and you'd have to change to aux for receiving calls)

This is why you buy the justcarkits cable as my suggestion! :)
 
I find the sound quality on my Mediabridge brilliant.

I think posters who may have commented on poor sound might of been using the phones stock music players that have limited sound adjustment options whereas I use PowerAmp on Android. It has settings for 10 band graphics, base and treble, limiter for clipping and pre-amp's that you can save as "Bluetooth Default" for when connected to Mediabridge. I can honestly say I have no complaints with sound quality and jungle/house/garage/hip-hop tracks play with deep base and clear treble on my standard non-DPS/amplified head unit. I think PoweAmp's only available on Android so I'm not sure if something similar is available for iOS

With regards to ease of use, the track info is displayed on the Nav screen and track/volume/call answer/call reject/voice activated dialling can all be controlled by the MFSW so a lot less fiddly that having a Parrot kit.
 
I spoke to the Dice Media people and they reckon the one to go for is the Dension GBL unit. This will give me Music via USB plug-in or iPhone and handsfree with the phone still in my pocket, but using the CD controls on the radio to answer and reject calls, or scroll music, all for £105 rather than the £180 upwards for a Parrott kit.
