which Air filter

Hi all, apologies if this has been done to death although I'm a newb and couldn't see it...

I have a 3.0 coupe (well, will do by weekennd!) and looking to see which air filter is best - on previous cars I've always gone down the induction kit route although struggling 2 find one for this car?

How are the KnN panel filters and do they make a difference sound wise and performance wise? Was confused on Kn N website, any1 have the part number 4 this if this is the route to go down?

Thanks in advance,

Oll :D

Hmmm, I know that K&N hasn't made a filter for the 06+ 3.0i and 3.0si version here in the States. BMW changed the design from a square to a custom shape. I would double check your filter and then make sure that whatever you order, if it isn't the correct design, that the supplier will refund you money.

I have a GruppeM CF intake kit for sale which I'm sure fits the 3.0 if your interested. I'll check the part number against the GruppeM website to be certain.

Just looked on the website, which model number is this one? - V.interested if the price is right though - and how many miles you roughly done on it?

cheers :)

The part number is 02-0302. I did just over 8k with it before I fitted 100 cell cats and twin straight through pipes. The combined noise was too much so something had to go. I fitted a K&N panel filter and retired the GruppeM which is a shame really because it does look good! Price to the UK is £200 including delivery. It cost me nearer £350 plus delivery from Japan so that has to be a good deal!

Curtis - if you don't already have a buyer from the guys who've already posted on here then I'll take that induction kit. Similar sort of set up to the Hurricane I fitted to the Elise I had. :D

In terms of panels the Helene ones are oft quoted as being the best direct slot in upgrades (what I currently have).

Sold to the man with the Sapphire Black Alpina! At least I know it fits the Alpina no problem!

Sent PM hopefully - seems to have gone to outbox not sent but I can't see what else I could have done with it. :? Let me know if you haven't received it.

Cheers guys, had a look for that Helene filter and could only see it for models up to 2005 and the Alpina - any ideas for a 2006/2007 3l filter or induction kit??

HEard about these Green twister ones too - any thoughtsa?

Wouldn't this one fit in the '06+ models? I have to admit I haven't really looked at the new air filter design but I'm pretty sure that this should work.http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=33-2372

OE - K & N oil can cause issues with the MAF sensor in modern BMW's.

You are correct. Obviously, the boyz at K&N have updated their line up and I am out of date on this, until now. Thanks for the update. I will be looking into this myself. btw, I removed the "upper" filter in the intake box. I believe this may be a US requirement only.

There's a TSB on problems associated with removing the Charcoal filter on the s54's. It is a N/A requirement only, however, engine management is mapped with it in place - many have had idling and stalling problems that have removed it. It creates ZERO net HP by removing it.
