Which 10W 60 engine oil??

I'm considering doing an interim oil change, it's only been 5-6k since the last oil change but hey, it's not going to do any harm!

The question is, which oil?!

Castrol Edge FST 10W60
Mobil 1 10W60
Valvoline VR1 10W60
Triple QX 10W60

I'm not a mechanic by any means, my Z4MR is on 32.7k miles, guidance would be great!

It doesn't come down to money, I just want to know if it makes any difference whether I go for the cheapest or the most expensive 10W60, surely they all conform to the correct 'specs'? If anyone has any experiences to share etc...

Also, how much oil am I going to need? my 3.0Si was around 5.5L if I remember rightly

10w60 is only one part of the spec though.

The spec for them M version of the oil has lower 'something' than other versions. Don't know if it makes any difference or not - or whether it'd invalidate a warranty if you used 'non-OE' oil?

Opie Oils has most of the spec sheets (where available) linked on each product page so you could see what manufacturer approvals they had and what the difference was in cold pour, hot pour, ash residue, etc.

I would suggest changing the oil as much as you can, An M is a high powered sports car so 6000 miles is not too soon to drop the oil IMO.

Ill be doing it yearly or every 6000 miles if i ever own an M -

If the car has done numerous short journeys then I would suggest an oil change, if mostly motorway miles then you could get away with it. I change the oil every 6k regardless

BMW now supply Shell 10w 60, so I have that in stock for the impending oil change.

I'm not sure the TWS is low sulphur though, its above 1% for sure, around 1.6% from memory. As an example the oil in my A6 with DPF is down at 0.6% SAP.

I remember seeing the difference between the Edge for M engines and Edge for non-M engines and there was only one item I could see that was different.

I know it was 'low something' and sulphur popped into my head - it's probably just ash or something
