I guess if you want an E46 jack then that may well inflate the price. I just searched scissor jack on Ebay and there are pages of them.

The one I have I just purchased from a breakers that I happened to drive near - brand new never used for £10. Think Adam saw it in the engine bay on Sunday, ready for emergency use :)
 
I did try e-bay but no joy. :(

Yes the E46 jack has the neoprene blocks which fit into the sockets on the sill. :thumbsup:
 
Bottom line is it sounds like you're all sorted with trolley jack for safe working and scissor jack for emergency use while out and about :thumbsup:
 
I know low-profile trolley jacks were mentioned a few months ago, and I contributed, but unfortunately my cheap ALDO/LIDL trolley jack has kicked the bucket after a few years. It was starting to twist slightly and I didn't trust it, so I binned it.

I need a new jack. Any suggestions for a good low-profile trolley jack that doesn't cost the earth? :!:

(I don't use one often so don't want to spend too much, but I'll happily spend whatever's required for a worthwhile one)

Cheers for the link - looks similar to what I just binned though and the review on there doesn't make good reading. I should also have said I'm after one with a 3 ton ability as I've also got my campervan (now weighing in approx 2400kg) that I'd potentially be using a jack on. Ones fitting that criteria seem to be north of £100.

I've just found THIS one which seems OK for the money...

I best not tell you that I stuck a largish pebble on the top of a single-arm scissor jack so I could lift the car on Sunday then.....

But I do know better, and own both a small bottle jack and a low profile trolley jack, as well as copious amounts of jack stands. :thumbsup:

Is that not the same one?! :? I think he wanted a 3 tonne.

Thanks for the link though, may just get one meself. Was thinking about painting my calipers this weekend and they look a little shoddy. :wink:
 
I have been looking for a low profile trolley jack. Most seem to start at 8cm min. I measured from my jack point to the ground - it is 5cm.
I can't find one that starts at 5cm

3 tonne was my choice as it can lift the wheels car easily 18" off the ground so it was arm length rather than capacity.
Also can be used on 2 tonne of X5 and Costco did it for iirc about £70 and it's garage spec.

For sure though something that can lift 1 tonne is more than ample to lift one side or end of a Zed.
 
:D yep I'm just an awkward customer!

I'll keep searching, I'm skint because of the campervan though anyway. Part of me thinks to stop being so fussy and just use some of the spare wood I have to build a small ramp to drive the Z4 onto to create more ground clearance for a "regular" trolley jack, but that's sooooooo much hassle lol.

I'll need to measure the clearance on my Z4's jacking point, but pretty sure mine's less than 5"...
