Where to put axle stands

Hi, just looking for some advice.

I was looking to raise the front 2 wheels to paint the callipers and was wondering where the best place would be to put the axle stands.

Do I use the jacking point to raise the car with my trolley jack and then place the axles stands under the wishbones.

Or do I use the jack on the rear side jacking point and then when high enough place the axle stand under the front side jack point.

I have tried looking for a decent picture of where to place them on the wishbones but can't really find one.

I have a low profile jack and a normal jack plus 2 axle stands if that makes any difference

Thanks for the help

I usually do the first option front up axle stands under the wishbone. It's a bloody shame there is no centre jack point!!

I saw this image from zroadster, would that be the best place on the wishbone? I don't think its from a Z4 but I can't imagine its that much different

Personally, I always jack the car up on the rear and then put the axle stands under the front when I am doing any work like that. I tend to find that the front wheel lifts off the ground only slightly after the rear anyway... or at least it does on my coupe.

This is what I do. I do each side, carefully. I've not gads cause to have all 4 wheels off the ground, yet.

I jack the rear and put the stand on the front jack point too.... And leave the rear trolley in place without the handle.

same here, jack up the rear point and place stands on the front jacking points. Then use the centre rear jacking point if you need to raise the car to put on four stands.

That looks like the lollipop is supporting all the weight, I wouldn't do that personally!

Cheers for the info. I went for raising the rear with a jack enough to get the axle stand under the front point. I also put a axle stand under the wishbone just incase (but not supporting any weight)

Was just a quick job on the callipers, wasn't going for top quality, but also gave me time to clean the arches.

Jack the car up from the middle under the skirt

Just find a flat bit that's solid.

You will be fine

Or on the diff at the back

You need a low profile jack with a rubber pad for either manoeuvre

You can jack the car up from the crimp weld right next to the jacking point - then put your jack stands on the jacking point. The trick is to use a solid piece of 2x4" between the jack and the crimp weld.

This also enables you to jack the car up 2" higher than the height of the jack - something that helps on a car this low to the ground.
