Where to MOT?

It's that time of year again. Last year I took it to the dealer but it failed on tyres so I got that sorted then went to a Nationwide centre as time was running short. Was a bit nervous about how they'd treat it but this was ok, problem turned out to be they didn't know what they were looking at (Alpina has 2 VINs / Chassis numbers it seems and it totally foxed the tester who thought it was a cut 'n shut). So I had to go away again and make another trip back. Where do you all go to get your car MOT'd?

Local village MOT station. It's a formality for me on a well maintained car and have no interest in people seeking extra work

yeah, some say council MOT stations are the best, as they don't even do repairs so they are not gonna try and get you to pay for stuff for the sake of it.

anywhere clean with a good viewing booth

Viewing booth - you're kidding me. I'm usually under the car looking around takning advantage of the opportunity and watching exactly where they are proding and poking.

Uggghh, I absolutely hate to see the undercarriage at times! The front valance sits too low for some obstacles, and seeing the severe scratches that happen, makes you want to

i check everything on the car from the mot inspection sheet i can before taking it in... im pretty happy with my mot guy

I've only had one MOT, back late last year. Passed with no problems. I took it to my local garage, as the least I contact I can have with the dealer here the better. They hate me in there because of the trouble I had in the first year. I nearly set up camp in there!

I still have the services done there though just to keep the stamps up in the book. There is a good local independent BMW specialist where I go for any other work however.

Thought Health and Safety put a stop to you being anywhere near the car nowadays?

Hence I use the local village MOT station where let's just say they are more relaxed about how to treat customers.

What is MOT? We have madatory yearly inspections (tires, lights, brakes and other items) for a small fee in some US states.

Yes, it is the yearly inspection. However, in the UK, it is anything but cheap though. Also, UK is the only European country to start this at 3 years old vehicles. Other EU countries start at 4 years, and only every other year - not every year.

It's a bit of a pain and while it removes wrecks off the road it is a bit tiresome and lengthy covering everything from emissions to tyres, bulbs, brakes, down to seatrbelt mountisngs, etc. etc.

If pedantic the car can be failed on pretty much anything at the whim of the tester, equally they can also pass anything if they wish, so a 2nd tier garage will get MOT's done on cars for sale without question, which does somewhat fool the buyer into believing it's a good car.

Well fingers crossed the Government may see sense!
