Where to have an iPod Touch 4g repaired ?

Wee Bing has just dropped his Blackberry on his iPod and smashed the screen. Hit it on the edge below the button, mashed that bit of the glass and cracks across the screen. Still works, but fecked. Don't know whether to be :x or

Anyway, has anyone had an iPod or iPhone screen repaired by anyone, got any recommendations for where I could take it and possibly not get my wallet raped ? He has the 32gb model, so it's a good £240 to replace... Hoping a new screen might come in a damn sight cheaper.

(I just read a guide on repairing it DIY style - no chance I am trying something that fiddly...)

Take it back to Apple, they will charge for a replacement and won't bother with repairing it, they will then take the parts from it and use it,

For eg, they charge £139 for a replacement iPhone and £249 for a replacement iPad

I did not know that ! Does it need to be an actual Apple store, or an official Apple retailer like Stormfront ? And will they flash all the data over for me ?

I found a site online who'll repair it for £45 including VAT and Royal Mail Special Delivery both ways...

Has to be at an Apple store....make a Genius appointment online first at your local store....you have my number, I can call my business manager at Apple tomorrow and find out the cost.

I think the Touch has Cloud, although not sure...if not, you will have to transfer it from your computer, saying that they may have another way

IIRC it might share the same screen as an iPhone. A lot of those kiosk chappies in the shopping centres can do them and they keep screens in stock. Check one out before you mail it off to someone or put a kidney on eBay and take it to Apple.

Cheers Stark - let me see if I can sort it in town tomorrow (possibly not a kiosk though - scary Stuart !) as the closest store is probably Bluewater... That said, still interested in the cost so I will give you a ring if I can't sort it

I had a 4g touch before i got my iphone,

I swapped the screen myself... About £50 on ebay, and takes under 30mins with vids on the net how to do it.

Don't trust myself - seen the guides... Too much to break

Bing, I'd forget about Apple solution. Too much hassle getting an appointment and too expensive...

Try these people. i used them for my old 3G screen when that fell and smashed. Brilliant service and pretty cheap. Highly recommended and they do all models of 'i'.

I also replaced the screen on my daughter's Ipod touch. Cost about a tenner and took 5 minutes to fit. Easy-peasy.

For example:

YouTube will show you video clips of how to change the screen.

Alternatively, here is a repair service offering.

Seriously its so easy!

Get some prying tools online and its a piece of cake.

I had to swap the lcd and screen and touch interface on mine.

If yours is just the outer screen its even easier!

Fixed in 30mins in a wee shop in town, £40 including a change to the screen surround to white - sorted

Now I just need to dock his pocket money for a couple of months
