I usually get mine from a local Saturday market. Space the letters exactly how I like them, no questions asked.

Sounds Dangerous to me :)

You can send off for them. Have a search online. When I chose my private plate I had an option to have plates made up also to any spec and they were sent very fast.

just read up and found to be legal they must have manufactures name and post code on

lame!

True but mine have neither and a BMW badge where the euro flag or 'GB' go and they have passed three MOTs with no queries

I've used the following: http://www.myshowplates.com/number-plate-designer.asp
Excellent speed of service and remarkably good quality.

I get the BMW dealer to make mine up - Its a bit of a thing of mine but I like the number plate and tax disc holder to match. Sopers did some for my previous Zed and I've got original supplying dealers plates on the M.

yes or at least some sort of dealer logo. i noticed mine has a little sticker from the place i bought it from.... having said that i wonder if you could have anything on there. so maybe if the forum made plates you could have www.Z4-FORUM.com in the middle

im not sure about the flag i thought it wasnt needed but was helpful if you went abroad as it meant you didnt need GB stickers

I just use the cheapest ebay place i can fine for my legal plates... Just ordered a pair for £9.99.

After the MOT my plates are changed to my raised resin plates.

In theory yes, but my personal plate was made by Halfords and has neither and the car also sailed through its MOT's with no problem :D

It depends how you interpret the law. :)

If you have new style lettering - AB 13 CDE - then these have to have the info on them, but if you have old style [like me] - G 12 ABC - then when these were originally issued they didn't have the info on them. So if you have one in this style who's to know if it was manufactured in the 1980's or this year ;)

Anywhere other than main dealers :?
I have a receipt in my X3 folder from previous owner purchasing 2 with coloured caps for £41 total not including fitting :o
Although they do say "Stratstone" on so that must justify the price

Although plates are meant to be checked during an MOT I think the testers often overlook them. I'd imagine you'd be more likely to be stopped by the plod and face a fine rather than fail an MOT.

I got mine from ebay - £9.99 delivered front and rear - and fully legal (so including the postcode, BS mark, etc.)

There's a handy guide here as to how your plate should look: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/v796-display-of-registration-marks-for-motor-vehicles

I agree [almost]. When I had my E30 M3 I had some plates made in Germany [via a German contact] in the correct UK format, but in pressed metal with the German font, and the yellow is a slightly different hue. She sailed through all her MOT's, and when I was stopped a couple of times by PC Plod [speeding - what me?] nothing was mentioned.
