Where to get pads?

Hey!

I'm needing some new pads for my Z4M.

Currently I have an OEM setup and don't do nearly enough track work to justify a BBK conversion but I'd like the best fast road/light track performance possible. I'd originally intended to go with EBC Yellowstuff but after reading a few horror stories I decided I may give them a miss. A bit more reading and I thought of either Carbone Lorraine or Ferodo DS2500 however I can't seem to find rear pads for Z4M's for either make...

Any suggestions where to get them?

Thanks,

Rank

Whatever you choose avoid ebc. They suck ass. Big time.

Pagid have a pattern for our stock calipers.

Thanks... pretty much what I thought re EBC!

Just had another thought, I understand the Z4M has the same brakes as an E46 M3 CSL... does this mean that CSL pattern pads are a straight replacement?

Yes.

Pagid RS pads are great, but be prepared to pay £200/axle set. Don't forget that Ferodo DS and Pagid RS are not ECE R90 certified for road use (but don't let that bother you) :P

BTW, my EBC Yellowstuffs worked fine and lasted for over 30k miles without failing - maybe the fact that I always buy direct from EBC helps? However, on the recommendation of one of their technical guys I swapped to the Bluestuff (non ECE R90) and they're even better

Ferodo DS2500, EBC YellowStuff, Stoptech Street Performance should be in the same performance bracket. That is a minor performance upgrade from stock. I've used the Stoptechs (still do) and i think they're pretty good value for money. Ferodo are much more expensive here and i've not tried EBC's yet.

For stock items you can check www.bmminiparts.com for aftermarket parts check http://www.ca-int.co.uk/ http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/ And that's as far as my knowledge goes....

Yellow stuff aren't in the same bracket as DS2500 - fact. Redstuff maybe, but even then i wouldn't trust the pad not to break up on serious applications. I've owned evo's for the last 7 years and have tried pretty much all pad/disc combos to find a fast road set up.

EBC have had a pad reputation over the last few years as friction material separates from back plates and the pad surface breaking up due to excess heat caused by their compound, they have released an Orangestuff pad which so far is getting great reviews but this is probably due to new development. DS2500 are an AWESOME pad, and perfect for the Z4 if the fitment is found.

Thanks for your help guys!

Assuming that CSL pattern pads fit then the DS2500's I have ordered from Larkspeed should be going on soon!

CSL brakes are exactly the same as Z4M brakes. They should fit fine

Redstuff is the pad below the Yellowstuff.

Range is Ultimax -> Greenstuff -> Redstuff -> Yellowstuff -> Bluestuff -> Orangestuff

I've used the Yellows on two e34 M5s and my Z4MC - all of which did multiple 'Ring trips and track days - and only switched to the Blues because I was told they were even better than the Yellows.

I've also used DS2500 in an AP BBK on my Corrado VR6 but they only lasted 4,000 dusty, squealy miles before I needed new pads! I swapped to the DS3000 and found them much better. This was in 1996-2000 though, so they may have changed their DS2500 compound since.

I'm putting DS2500's on with my new AP BBK on Thursday, thought the Pagids would be a bit too squealy.

Can't wait :driving:
