Where to get MOT? BMW?

My MOT is due at the end of the month. Dick Lovett BMW in Bristol charge £44.95. I'm pretty sure my car will pass so I'm thinking I should take it there... Does anyone know:
1. Will they provide a courtesy car?
2. Will the charge for a retest?
3. Will they try and stitch me up?
Thanks!

Apparently Mr Clutch is £25 - I assume that's a chain but no good if it's not.
They have different prices at each location. Cheapest I found was Milton Keynes @ £21.
My local one (Acton, London) was £30 though.

the cost of the MOT is the least of your worries, its the amount of stuff they decide you 'need' before they pass it that stings you. i would go to a garage you can trust rather than saving £10 on the actual cost of the MOT.

+1. Took my mercedes to a local garage for its MOT on the cheap (£25) and was told the xenon bulb in the headlight was upside down and since it was the last one in the day they couldn't do it there and then as the "engine was too hot". Basically trying to get me back the next day for the £30 to fix the bulb (rubbish) and a £25 retest fee.

I have always taken my cars for their MOT to the smallest indepenant one man band I can find,.. whose entire schedule is filled with £50 MOT jobs,..being all they are in business for.

For me, a bigger outfit that is capable or ordering and fitting expensive parts will see the MOT as a handy tool to fish for new work.

I only use my local dealer because my car is always under extended warranty. I even take my Polo there for MOT.

Think you need to ask the dealer these questions (well perhaps not the last one :P )but here's the reponse you will get......

1. Courtesy car - I think not (but you can ask/try), you can sit and wait or even watch them do it!

2. Yes they will charge for a retest however if If your vehicle fails it's MOT test and is left at the station it was originally tested in to be repaired, then no additional fee is charged for a retest. This is known as a Partial Re-Examination or Partial Retest. If the failed vehicle is taken away but then brought back to the same test station and retested before the end of the next working day on one or more of the following items only then no fee is charged for a retest: http://mottesting.org.uk/mot-retest-information-fail.html

3. Will they try and stitch me up? You can do most of the basic checks yourself before you take it in and just ensure your vehicle is well maintained. Take a 'crap' poorly maintained vehicle in and if stictching you up is failing a badly maintained vehicle then expect to get stitched up - you deserve it!

BUT I'm sure you Zed is immaculate and the MOT is merely a confirmation of the excellent condition you keep it in. And as others say there are loads of places cheaper - just shop around.

Most UK towns have a council MOT centre that do taxis , ambulances etc .. I took mine to a BT fleet garage, they do their fleet company cars, public vehicles and the likes of AA/Rac, Gas etc, ( saw a couple of high performance unmarked police BM's there last time in)

They both just do MOT and routine servicing and aren't in the business doing you over.

Had my Z4 MOT'd today. Small independent local garage, they picked the car up from my house this morning, did the MOT and an oil & filter change (Comma Synter-Z synthetic oil) and delivered the car back. All for £140 incl vat. Excellent service at a fair price! :D

...which is quite rare for a Council :)

Good shout though - whever I hire vans at work I collect them from the depot where the Council's MOT bay is. Its where I'd use if I didn't already have a good source for MOTs without being ripped off.

I had mine done at the main dealer and passed with no issues or faults found. Depends if you have a decent relationship with your dealer I guess.
