Where to buy old BMW ?

Friend of mine wants to buy (then sell) an old BMW while his 3 series is in the shop for a month. Better than renting a crappy corsa / clio or something.

Looking to spend less than 1500 (could go to 2000). Would like a 323, 523 or 528, age 1997 - 2001 and mileage is typically over 100k.

Does anyone know of any large 'car supermarkets' that stock cars of this cost / age ? Can find a load on autotrader but would be nice to have a selection in a single location. Typically the big ones like car giant only have stock as old as 2004 / 2005.

Or any other suggestions of places to look.

In the south-east, London (west) area.

Thanks

I'd just have a look at the classifieds mate - A mate of mine paid £1450 for a lovely 1998 328i, Full leather etc. Its done around 140k but purrs like a kitten. He found it on ebay and just offered the seller cash outside the auction - easy peasy!

Do some Ebay searching. Sort by lowest price or closest distance, refine to the models you want and look at the classifieds. Plenty in your price range.

I suspect most motor supermarkets are looking for late model tin, although our local one has a second 'round the corner site' but mainly push these P/Ex out to tertiary under the arches traders.

Could also try the auctions. Given its a buy and sell. You can simply see lots in a location and bid until you get one. As a kid I used to buy cars on Thursday. Polish then up and advertise the following week in the local paper. Kept me off the streets and rarely slipped up.

Oh well - I guessed there wouldn't really be a big dealer doing cars this old but worth a shot.

Never thought about auctions and the few I have found seem really good. Amazing number of cars available. Unfortunately most seem to run during the week and need to get something before Monday.

Thanks for the help anyway.
