Where have all the BMW's gone?

Rainy day yesterday and just filling time after a lunch out and passing a BMW dealership, decided to pop in and have a look at any G29's or i8's they may have had, new or otherwise. To my surprise despite being a big showroom all they had were a couple of convertible 3 series and 3 new convertible 4 series. I have not seen the new 4 series but Jesus what an ugly looking front end they have. Think the designers must have had a competition to see how big they could make the front grill.

Have another dealership closer to home and decided to have a look in there also. Even worse they only had 4 new cars in total, a people carrier and 3 of these convertible 4 series. They are either having shipping issues or everything is flying out.

Also struggled to see a new G29 in the flesh. Ended up test driving a very poorly prepared S20I that looked nothing like the video or pics.

There aren’t any is the long and short of it. There’s 3 new unregistered G29’s in the uk just now.

When I went to pick mine up the showroom was half empty with various versions of the same models inside. I commented on it to the salesman who said they were putting all their new cars in the showroom to make it look better (particularly from the road) rather than the usual of 1 of each as they didn’t have them.

He also said 95%+ of new cars coming into the dealership were customers and were going straight out the door as soon as they got them and did the prep work.

I remember the days when a dealership had one of each model in the showroom for customers to view and test drive. These were later sold as demonstrators which is how I bought my last 3 zeds

That’s still their aim, there just isn’t the cars available to allow them to do it currently. There was at least 5 or 6 4 series’s and at least 3 7 series’s in the showroom, no X’s, Z’s or ///M’s at all

Isn’t just a BMW thing, was on the Jag new car site this afternoon and as soon as you clicked configurator this message came up. Also noticed that the chip shortage made the news tonight in relation to high 2nd hand car prices due to the shortage of new ones.

Took out a Cayman GTS 4.0 the other week for the day, same issue with Porsche, showroom was half full at best, not much on the outside 2nd hand for sale either. The sales guy said the chip shortage issue is with seats, no idea if that’s true or not though. :idunno:
