As you probably know I spend a lot of my free time at the beach. 
I headed off this morning planning, to swim and dive off the rocks at Sharrow point in Whitsands bay. It's the first time I have visited this spot, this year.
From the top of the cliff things looked a little odd, but still looked fine. I headed down to the old smugglers cave. From there I could see the full extent of the erosion. What had been Golden sand has been stripped away and replaced with dead broken up sea weed, from further down the coast, manmade rubbish and grey silt. I was frankly horrified and gutted. I didn't get in.
This winter has obliterated many of our local beaches. Millions of tons of sand has simply vanished. I just hope it comes back. I've lived by the sea all my life and never witnessed anything like the past winter. Much as I enjoyed surfing, at the height of many of the worst storms, I'd rather have the beaches back. 8)
