Where do we all stand, 18 or 19 wheels.

So car is on 224's at the moment, std in other words. To be frank I am not a fan of them so want to change but was thinking keep 18" so that I can keep the tyres I have, but what is the collective opinion here?

Also, lowering.....is this a sure fire way to ruin the roadsters handling or should it be on everyone's wish list?

Been looking at various Zito 935, VMR710, Cade's Tyrus, CSL reps and even the classic BBS RS ( which I do love) and still none the wiser.....M roadster in interlargos if anyone is interested, and it has to be silver and pref deep dish with a lip.....old school you see.

18,s are fine by me on all BM,s bar 6 series which do look silly on anything less
224,s are a favourite of mine so can,t see the reason to ditch them ?

When i had my Z4M R i thought the H&R springs were a great improvement over the standard springs..

Although lower they were more compliant...


BTW its CSL.Morr or Inspiri ISR 1 FTW.... ;)
 
I'm on 19" rims with H&R coil overs and the car is lowered 1." I love the way it looks, feels and handles! IMO much better than stock with less body roll, sharper turn in, less oversteer. And the H&R coil overs somehow manage to reduce the harshness of the ride. I have no measurements to support any of this... only seat of the pants impressions after almost of year of use on these mods.
 
I have 18 inch wheels and am mainly put off getting 19's because of the considerable price hike in tyres.
 
I'm on 18" wheels, with a set of CSL's waiting to be mounted next season. The CSL's look great on an interlagos blue coupe! Ibix has a set for sale and so do I (but mine isn't listed yet).
 
I think this is a difficult question to answer. Most people will say whatever they have.

I have 18s on my car and think they are about right. 19s do look good, but it isn't a huge car and really doesn't need massive wheels in my view. I have Forgestar F14s, which I like but they are badly kerbed and in need of a refurb, I wanted a second set of wheels/tyres anyway, and will get the F14s done when they arrive.

I spent a long time looking at options, and whilst they look good a lot of the after market/CSL rep styles are relatively heavy. In the end I went for a set of Apex EC-7, which is sort of similar to the CSL, but available in the sizes I wanted: 18x8.5 and 18x10 to match the Forgestars. They are reasonably light and very popular with race teams, so I thought I could rely on the pedigree. The EC-7 also has huge brake clearance. Unfortunately Apex are in California, so delivery is a bit extended. Should be here next week I think.
 
I also looked at Apex EC-7 when i was getting my wheels a few years back, the quoted 6 months waiting time put me off them :lol:

The 18/ 19 debate is down to what you want from the car. Under 10k miles a year on decentish roads i see no reason not to go for 19's just purely for the visuals.. you bought a 2 seater car after all.. so clearly visuals are important - otherwise we'd all have scoobies if we wanted performance alone :roll:

I have 18" winters.. and imo the ride is much better on them, and they are quieter.. but imo i only notice after i have just swapped over.
 
I've kept the 224's which I think are a great looking wheel for an OEM wheel. I do understand the need to want to put your own stamp on something and I will probably get another set of wheels to change things around at some point.

Worried about getting 19's as some people say the ride gets crashier but maybe 19's with some suspension changes could work. I have 12mm spacers on primarily to give more clearance to the BBK I have fitted and to fill the arches better.

Perhaps a good choice of a 19" wheel could solve both these problems? I don't track the car at the moment but plan to when I get some time next year, not really researched what size wheel is best for that.

18s and 19s 18s in the winter 19s in the summer.

With mine on 19s the ride is no more crashy but im on H&Rs they are so hard there is no difference

I have 19" BBS CH's on my Z4M and i can honestly say that there is no noticeable difference with regard to ride harshness. I haven't lowered my car yet as i live in London and some speed humps are like mountains ;)

On the other hand a decent Geometry set up (pull the pins out of the front struts) makes a huge difference and i would advise anyone buying one of these to get it done best £70 i have spent on the car.
 
I was happy with the 18's on my old one but the 19's do look very sexy, I thought the ride was questionable on the 18's so I would imagine the standard ride on 19's would be challenging to say the least.
 
Ok I think I'll stick with 18's for the mo, certainly until I know it is a keeper etc as this is only the 1st week within the car + the tyres on the car are useable. I will keep the 224's as we'll just in case.

Mate with Photoshop skills is coming to the rescue, so I'll post them all up for a giggle/comment.

A little off topic (sorry!) but what offset do the BBS CH's run? Are they a straight fit to the Z4??

I think 19s with well set up suspension should work a treat myself, but also like the look of the 224s... :D
 
I like the 224's, looks the goods. I also like the csl's or the copies thereof, but everyone that has a z4 has them now. So yeah I recon the 224's look great, I recon the M division must have also thought that :lol:

I have 19' 220M wheels ... I like them quite a lot, but have been secretly steering at the CSL competition wheels :D ;) I might swap or buy brand new next year just to have extra set of wheels ... so 19' all the way ..

The wheel sizes that i have are standard E46 M3 Fitment.

8.5" x 19" ET35 Fronts and 10" x 19" ET20 Rears :)

They come up on cutters every so often. Straight fit although my car isn't lowered i suspect lowering wouldn't be a problem looking at the clearances... I am running 235/265 tyres (same as CSL) but i may increase to 275 on the back as the tyres have a slightly "stretched" look at the minute.
