Get organised...heres a couple of pics in my garage, being a DIY enthusiast all my life I love tools, been collecting them for years so when a job or project crops up I know exactly where my tackle is, if I don't have a tool for a particular job that crops up I go out and buy it, and dedicate a spot for it. I don't do rummaging. This method takes away the stress and the job in mind is already half way completed. I built a workshop at the rear of my garage and its contents enable me to do plumbing, joinering, home electrics and autos, building projects, welding, painting home and autos ...You catch my drift. The world is full of cowboys in the nasty sense (UK terminology) who are just out to screw you, especially if you are a bit limited in knowledge, So a handy practical person can DIY and be proud of him or herself when they can confidently carry out these projects and the bonus is its done to your satisfaction and saves you hard earned money. Afraid I still try to put old head on young shoulders like most responsible parents do to save from pain and heartache.

I think setting out your tools with an outline on a board like that is excellent - you can clearly see if anything is missing.

Looks like you need a bigger board.

I bought a couple of large tool chests with drawers and this has made a big difference to finding tools when I need them as well.

Wish I had more confidence though with some tasks - as you say some great satisfaction to be felt completing them.

I have massive OCD ! So for me this would be heaven ! Although sadly I am not blessed with enough intelligence to understand what most of the tools pictured here would be used for ! :?
 
Don't want to worry you but it looks as if there is a vacant nail on the bottom right hand corner of pic 1, should something be there? :wink:
 
I knew a girl once who did this in her bedroom. She didn't like rummaging either, and had an issue with forgetting where she'd put her 'toys' :D

Seriously though, that's the sort of organisation I can only dream of :thumbsup:

Cheers guys just hoping one or two might think I can do that and go for it, my definition of OCD is Pride and reading your posts a lot of you guys already have it, which is a good quality so don't lose it, look after things specially the Zed and you won't need to replace them for a long time. Make sure you spot things coming loose before they fall off. all the best. Baz :driving:
 
I must admit I'm anal about my tools as well, it must come from my days in engineering but everything has a place and gets returned to there after use, I hate having to hunt down a particular tool every time I need it, it can put hours onto a job when you can;t find stuff. I hate clutter as well, it drives me nuts. The most used tools hang over one of the work benches and I can see at a glance if something is missing. Decent tools are expensive so why not look after them? My old Kamasa socket set is 40 yrs old now and although getting a bit worn after constant use it's still going strong. I had a shiney new set bought for me last year but I still reach for the old Kamasa sockets when I'm fettling in the garage.

 
It's a good idea to keep your tools clean & organised, I'd rather spend out on a tool collection and do things myself rather than give the dealer my cash-it's good for the soul :)

Blimey ,Ive seen more scruffy and less ornganised operating theatres cf your garage
I believe you can take medication for that kind behaviour
