Where can I run a usb cable from behind business cd head unit?

Somebody must have sorted this problem before, I am going to get the Grom interface unit and fit it behind the business CD player in the dash and will need to run a usb cable out from behind to somewhere in the cabin so I can attach iPhone or usb memory stick without removing the centre consul or too much of the dash.

Anyone?

In my E46 I fitted the GROM in the boot instead of the CD Autochanger, and then ran a cable forwards. Might be easier ??

I agree with markplant, that's where I did mine after some suggestions. Directly above the ashtray there's a panel about 8x3 inches.

When the stereo is out pop your hand down the back of the heater controls and it just pops out with a gently push

Can the panel be replaced with a usb cable going through it? Do you have any photos of how yours is done? Do you have to remove the ash tray and leave it out?

This panel was the one I was referring to

did you fit that Aux socket to the panel it looks very professional? I would have to cut a hole in it, are the panels still available to buy as I would like to fit to it s-l225.jpg

You can still get panels last I checked, think about £12.
If you drop the glove box on its hinges there's a gap you can run it through.

Not mine I just googled it as that's where the aux connections go i figured you could do something similar, that cable with the surface mount end would give a similar finish or as Steve said you could just run the cable in to glove box,
Also another option you could run it in to the ash tray you'd probably just need to remove one screw below the ash tray an lift out the switch panel that does the roof an heated seats

Glovebox is easy - when the stereo is out you can reach up through the dash from the glovebox - or poke a wire through. I have about 4x cables from the back of my parrot asteroid going into the glovebox.

Getting at the aux above the ashtray is a little trickier from memory but the whole panel pops out which helps access (and light!)

:)

I fed a usb extension socket to the panel under the heater controls (as mentioned above). Looks like this, and the USB stick is not visible from above so I can leave it without too much worry if the roof's down.

Yes, or Amazon, can't remember, I'm sure they're on both

Fitted Grom audio usb/iPhone unit to original business cd this afternoon, and fitted usb socket to panel below heater switches
that works with usb memory sticks and iPhone/ipod

This looks very smart, I take it you just copy your MP3 files to the memory stick, plug in and it plays?
Result
