Where are the prices going?

I've got an itch for a RCZ that just won't go away, so I went to test drive one at Arnold Clarke. Now I know these guys are the sharks of the used car world but I was really expected a bit more than a £4.2K PX value for my Z4.

Were they taking the P1ss, or is this about right for a 2007 3.0Si with 100k and full history? If that's right, I might just keep it as a summer car. Only just had the roof motor replaced !

That would sell better privately in the new year surely? The si is a great car.

You'd have to be desperate or mad to accept that for your car, I'd guess it would be worth £7k+ In the summer :o

For a P/X on that mileage I would say the offer is about 1k short from a P/X price

Others reasons I think they have came in at a low price-

I think a lot of newbie punters who want a two seater, that aren't familiar with the reliability of the Z, would be put off with 100k+ mileage example. What with BMW servicing / part costs when stacked up against say an MX5

I would also suggest that newbies to the two seater market would initially opt for the 2.0ltr, which would again narrow the market. We see this a lot on the forum, with newbies being advised by forum members to look at the 2.5 or 3.0ltr models. In most cases they follow the advice and go for the bigger engine.

So advertise on here and see if you get a sale?

I know that with PX they always offer less but that is ridiculously cheap. I would sell private for sure.

Thanks for the constructive replies. I was most disappointed with their valuation, especially as the car is in such excellent condition. Suppose that 100k barrier still exists though to some extent!

 they're taking the piss...no doubt that would be on their forecourt for 7.5k the following week...wankers

Try to find a good 2007 3.0si with service history, and one that's been well looked after for less than 7k - even a high-miler. You wont find one. Sell it privately to the discerning Z4 buyers out there - they know the true value of the 3.0si. PX 'trade in' prices are not a good guide to the true value of our cars.

Parkers unadjusted price for a 2007 (07) with 90k is £5970, so it's low but if they don't really want it then they lower the price from there.

Trade in is never a reflection of real value and is a number that is moved around in conjunction with the car you're buying and what discounts or loading is on that.

If you don't want the hassle of selling or waiting until Spring then you need to know the 'price to change' and decide from there.

£22k less £7k PX is the same as £20k less £5k PX i.e. £15k to pay

£20k discounted price less private sale in spring at £7k is £13k to pay (plus hassle, wait, etc.)

Not really (although I have no love for them) It's an 8 year old specialist car that they will not sell themselves. It will go to auction and they will be lucky to get the price offered. A dealer will then have to buy it, warrant it for 12 months and make a decent profit, probably not selling for weeks if not months and carrying that cashflow.

I was of the understanding these car supermarkets very rarely send a car to auction? either way its a very poor p/x offer, happy to say I've never part exed any vehicle in my life as its a complete rip off imho, I'd rather put up with a bit of hassle and save myself a small fortune

They have several for sale on their website

Fair point that they may sell, but the same logic applies. clearly they don't want it so offer a low price.

Me too - I would never P/ex a car. I'd sell private then go negotiate a deal with in effect cash in my pocket, take finance short term or whatever, but never a P/Ex. You have to pay far too much for that easy life. Last time I enquired was an X5 to a Jag XF and the end result between P/Ex and straight purchase is I'd have given them the X5 for £1k. Sold it to a mate same day for £5k...

Had a few emails enquiring about the car, which is nice since I've not really advertised it as yet!

Few details for the very keen:

Mine is in black, sports spec with the MFSW and business head unit. Leather and it had the roof motor done earlier this year by the local BMW indie.

Full history, Inspection 1 due in 7K miles or November 2016. Just passed it's MOT today and 2 advisories with regards to the front boots, which I intend to replace next week. Also has a nice Stormwerks gear knob which I may sell separately.

Not thought of a price yet, but I'm not greedy so I imagine it will be the cheapest 3.0Si in town!

Without full details + pics for a quick sale i would expect even out of season to see £6k with no probs for your car & very possibly more
Come spring / summer with a fair wind behind then £7000/£7500 wouldn't look ott
Interested to hear what price was the RCZ ? Was it to the bone hence the poor trade offer on yours :?

RCZ I looked at was 13.5K for a 2013 62 plate with 10K miles. Priced about right from what I can see.

Arnold Clarke move plenty of p/x cars to car auctions, predominately BCA and Manheim. They make plenty of extra profit on the p/x vehicles they send there too, usually looking for at least CAP Average money for a decent car. At £4.2k i would hazard a guess they would be pocketing a good £1k extra profit out of your deal if you took it.

I'm just wondering why the hankering for a RCZ though?! Surely you would be better sticking with a Z4 in terms of fun factor or even street kudos if thats your bag.

I just love cars, and can be incredibly fickle. I had to stop buying new cars as I was changing them every 12 months.

Once had 4 cars in one year! The RCZ will just be a stop gap until the sdrive 28 comes within my price range!
