When's the hard top going back on?

Hi,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like summer has all but gone. :(

So for those of you who have them, when are you planning to fit your hard tops and/or winter wheels?
(No clever remarks from E89 owners please. Once we hit 50 years old we will get an E89 as well) :poke:

I always fit my hard top too early and end up taking it off for that one day when the sun shines in October.

I was going to say how good the RHT is on my E89 (I will hit 35 in November). :D
 
There's always the other alternative of keeping the zed in the garage over the winter -seemples.

The hard top goes back on automatically by simply pressing a button! :? :D

Had mine off today driving home from work - pretty cold though: 13C but sunny.
 
I would never fit it even if I had one, the canvas keeps the car warm even in the winter and has a "real" window but when we get a nice dry day it's a lot easier to lower than removing a hard top! :poke:

My Winter wheels will however be getting fitted as soon as I notice the morning and evening temperatures regularly dropping to 7 degrees or below as I mainly use the car to drive to work at 7:30 and then home in the late afternoon so it never sees the warmer temps in the middle of the day. :(
 
Perhaps late October, but depends on what the weather does.

I've an electric hoist in the garage so only a 5 minute job to take it off if the fancy takes me. Reality though is I like the different car for a few Winter months.
 
I cant seem to grasp the concept of putting on winter tyres ,here in the UK . In the central belt of Scotland ,generaly, we normally get snow lying mabye , a maximum of 6 days , okay last year it was 'Baltic' , there wasnt much snow . I can understand changing to winter tyres in the States and Canada , as they tend to alot more snow . :? :?
 
Winter tyres aren't just about snow though mate (although that's where you'll see a HUGE difference), but they also cause dramatic improvements in grip in icy conditions (think black ice etc.) and cold, damp conditions (which is basically most of a British winter).

It's to do with the rubber compounds, summer tyres become very hard and stop gripping below about 7 degrees, winter tyres are made from a different type of rubber and remain very, very grippy even in icy conditions etc.

I've got them for the above reasons, and the fact that I can't afford to not have the use of the car if the weather turns bad, last winter even my Mondeo got stuck, also, if they save me from even one bump due to ice then they've paid for themselves as well as making my winter motoring much more enjoyable and faster. :driving:

Sounds like your winter was as bad as mine.
I couldn't even get the Zed off the drive last winter so I have invested in some 16's with skinny winter tyres.
Just hope they do the job, as I can't be dealing with a 20 minute walk, then public transport to get to work .

And what's that got to do with fitting hardtops? You'd be better to post this in the Winter tyre thread and not hijack this one.
 
I am so glad I did not order the hard top at the time, I would never have used it. Even in the winter when the weather is nice, the car comes out and top goes down. If it is horrible, the car stays in the garage and I take another car.
