Now i,m no racist but i would love somebody to explain how this is still acceptable when we as a country are supposedly cutting back on welfare .
Nobody wants anymore from anywhere coming here for benefits . we've got enough spongers already

We are all part of the EU but if i want to move next year to France yet can,t find work i am entitled to zero benefits . same in Spain & Italy .
WHY is the UK so obviously giving our money away ?
It makes me livid  :headbang:

X3, this country is struggling enough with unemployment and finances, we shouldn't be allowing immigration at this time

how unlike the daily mail - - normally such a well balanced read ...

i dont care where people are from - we should support those that cant support themselves and allow those that wont support themselves to realize the consequences

We live in a time where people are actively encouraged to take all the benefits they are entitled to.... which can mean having more disposable income than an equivalent minimum wage job.

Is it any wonder UK Plc is nearly bankrupt

Sure, but only for people who look to integrate into the wider community and improve their situation and move away from 'benefits' (although I do cringe when I write that word) Have a look at the cost of NHS translation services (per day...) because of such communities not learning the local language - how do you expect them to improve their situation and become self sufficient?

On another note - what really does annoy me is that we feel we must add the caveat "I'm not racist but.." when a topic such as this is raised

Your not, your just expressing your opinion

True, there's something to it. Otherwise I would not be ashamed to admit that I am Polish when travelling abroad. Many of my compatriots are already there, and definitely not the best nor the representative kind.

IIRC, EU law states that you have to offer the same benefits to EU citizens as you do to your own, so before blaming migrants, maybe we need to look to our own laws, and the possible consequences of changing them on the people it would effect that live here.

I'm no advocate of benefits to spongers, but there are people who genuinely need them (let's pick the partner of a soldier killed in action and the mother of his child. As they are not married they are not entitled to the same support a married person would get) and every single time the politicians meddle they hurt the genuinely in need and leave loopholes open to be taken advantage of.

Just sayin', before we all form a posse of righteous indignation

I thought you had to work somewhere first before being allowed entitlements? Not sure if I was to "retire" to the UK and not work at all that I could have any benefits?

The real joke is this...

- You pay for redundancy insurance cover
- You work for x amount of years
- You are made redundant
- You receive £15k payout and/or have £15k of savings
- You cannot claim job seekers allowance because you have more than £15k in the bank
- You cannot claim your redundancy insurance as you cannot claim job seekers allowance meaning you swallow up what savings you have

The whole system is stacked against the workers who pay for this 'corrupt system'...

Ranksi, that's kind of my point about politicians meddling...

As to your insurance thing, take legal advice, when it happened to me I did and it was quite remarkable how fast things got sorted once a lawyer was involved

The same approach to paying for elderly care as well. You save all your life and you have to "consume" your savings first by paying for the care, whist someone who has squandered everything all their life get the same for nothing.

Likewise Stuart, that's my point & argument -

The people who pay into 'the system' have to fight for such 'benefits''

In this case even have to spell out word for word the frustration and unfairness of it all

The US is in the same situation. It all boils down to power over others. The politicians want and have an insatiable addiction not only to your money. They want to have a say in every nook and cranny of your life. They will harp on about your (the tax payers) responsibility to take care of those less fortunate. Yet the politicians are rolling out the welcome mat inviting every unfortunate person from the far flung corners of the earth a free pass into the country. It's all just an means to an end. Total control of your life and the money you may have. It really is that simple.

It is nigh impossible to be self sufficient any more. Simply due to taxes being owed on the land that we might own means you have to have a job. Or should you sell a little of your veg or meat on the side to pay those taxes. Well then. That means you are running an agri business. And a whole new can of taxes and trouble with yet more rules kick in. Which cost yet more money. It's a bloody pyramid scam. It's the same in the US. But who's fault is it? Certainly not the politicians. It is we the citizens that took the bait of the government being our surrogate mums and dads. We willingly handed our lives to our politicians so that we didn't have to worry about such things. And by god! They surely didn't waist time abusing our good nature. Thus becoming our masters. But it's what we wanted and asked for.

I guess when we have the UK | EU referendum it will show what people 'actually want' and not what 'we are told we want'
