When to replace trunk struts / hydraulics

I'm curious, should it always feel like I'm preventing the trunk lid from damaging itself when closing? It's certainly not hard to drop the lid and seems like it would always land with an incredible force if not slowed. Time to replace the struts? or is that normal and new struts do the same and just look cleaner?

I’d say it’s normal, i never let mine just fall shut in case it damages the soft close mechanism

I’ve bought a brand new set of OE supplier struts for both front and rear..yet to fit…will advise when I have for an A:B report

My 2016 car feels pretty stiff - needs pressure to open / close - let go whilst opening or closing & it just sticks where it is.

Definitely not 'loose'.

Are those OEM struts or beefier ones?
