When One Presses The Sport Button..

...what happens exactly?!

I've not pressed it yet so wondered what goes on! Does the sky cloud over, thunder clap and lightning strike and the road open up with no traffic?

There is a serious question in there though - does it actually do 'stuff' or is it a gimmick?

It sharpens up the throttle and reduces assistance to the steering. It also increases the throttle when you use cruise control to speed up to your set speed and I believe if you have an auto it effects the gearbox! All in all good fun! :driving:

Hi Oneteam,

not sure if yours is an auto or not (ours is), if i use it as a "manual" with the button pressed, it speeds up the gear changes with less rpm drop and lets it rev right around the dial (i've not hit the limiter yet  ), when i switch the button off it drops a few hundred revs, so all in all it makes things a little more hectic and more exciting  Best thing to do is, from a standing start switch it on and nail it :D

My goodness, just try it and see, the car does respond differently as throttle response and steering are much improved.

 As sars, says,
and when on dry twistys do a couple of miles with it off then turn it on.....you will feel the difference, makes the car a bit more aggresive.... and good fun.

Try it you'll love it

I always have it on. Even if Im just out for some milk and bread. It feels so much sharper and direct. I wish it could be programmed so it turns on automatically every time i start the car.

^ this. In fact I'm trying to leave it off for some journeys just so I can appreciate it again, otherwise I'll be needing a sport "sport" button. If that makes sense...

I find for a decent drive you need sport on and DTC off - but if you're just pootling round town leave as is.

It drops the suspension 15mm all round, opens a flap in the exhaust for better sound, inflates seat side bolsters and engages the stealth anti speed radar paint mode.

I always forget I have it and usually only remember when I`m pulling back onto the driveway DOH!

When I do remember I get a harder kick in the back when accelerating with it on due to the rate of change of acceleration being higher.

Hahahahahaha

Great responses lads! :D

I did wonder whether it had the effect of Michael Knight pressing 'TURBO BOOST' in KITT!

(in the first few series of course, not that rubbish series when spoilers shot out from the car!)

By default, DTC is always off. DTC is only intended to be on if you are driving in snow and need extra traction (activated by briefly pressing the DTC button).

Presumably you mean DSC OFF (which happens if you press and hold the DTC button for 3 seconds: this leaves DTC off as per usual, and switches off DSC).

Switching off DSC when you have had the car for 1 week (as per OP) is not very wise, unless you like the back swinging out and ... ending up in a tree. Then you can admire the pictures you posted to Z4-forum, and think of the happy but brief moments you shared together.

If it's an SMG it will also reduce shift times to around 200ms, will not down-shift from 2nd to 1st unless car is stopped. Auto mode won't shift until around 3000rpm minimum. Will shift at higher RPM's depending on throttle position. Will not auto-shift-up at redline.

It has no effect on acceleration, just means you don't have to press the pedal as far to get the same effect. The car is no quicker but the pedal is more sensitive to the movement of your foot.
Acceleration is a rate of change of velocity. What is a rate of change of acceleration ?

Jerk. Sorry if that appears rude!
