When having a Z is nice, and when its not

Nice sunny day last Saturday and I took one of my kids for a spin with the top down. A pair of w@**ers in a van shouted "F#ing poser at us as I waited at a roundabout.

Pure jealousy and I'm happier to be the one on the receiving end than to be the one who's jealous.

Cold but clear blue sky and sunny this afternoon, pulled off the motorway, roof down, sounds up and blasted some lovely B roads home instead = Nice

My mate had an E46 M3 convertible and suffered exactly the same issues, people shouting w***er at him as he drove past - think he loved it though, waving as he went past or informing the chav at the side of the road his bus would be along shortly

Were you wearing your bermuda shorts and ray-bans, and nothing else though, Dr Phibes? :D

Not in front of the kids :-)

I get the 'they must be paying you too much' quite abit at work. I started as a graduate driving my 20 year old mk1 mr2, i was on a rubbish wage and before long i added the Z4 to my collection. Everyone thought it was worth alot more then it was, there are loads of people at work with brand new £18k+ focus, mazda 6, 1 series etc..

I like my cars and have the 350Z GT now which they think cost even more, its rarer round these parts also, a work mate who was also a grad gets the same as he started with an E36 M3 Evo and now has an E46 M3. One guy at work wont bring his Ferrari 355 GTS into work as he thinks the boss's will think he's on to much and wont get a pay rise.

Sometimes , with a 2 seatear sports car (whatever it might be ) its not the intrinsic value as such , more the fact maybe that its an indulgence that perhaps we are fortunate enough to own because we have understanding partners ? don t need a family 4 door 4 seater ? perhaps the other half has that ?
I've got a mate who's 37 , he;s a money broker in the city, he's paid his mortgage off and got both his kids in private school and has a house worth in excess of £ 350,000 , but his miserable wife won t let him have a sports car and he just does the station commute in an old renault megane whilst he's furnished her with some massive 4x4 merc for the school run
Sell the wife :fuelfire:

nah... grow some balls!

Hardly get any comments, the good ones I accept kindly and no-one seems to be brave enough to say a bad comment.

I bought it new and people here think nothing of putting a $60,000 truck in the driveway or buying a $20,000 Harley to putt around on so they say nothing about my car(s), at least not to my face... :D

Funny thing is i am prob the opposite from some people i bought my Z4 three years ago for 17.5k so was more consious of driving a flashy car (remember a bloke in the Dealership was picking up a brand new 1 series M and when i told him i was picking up my Z4 his comment was WOW :D ) but never never worried what people thought and would never hide her away from people now she is not worth as much i do not feel so flash but still very proud when driving her and still grin from ear to ear as like you say above people do not realise what a car is worth and i do keep the Z squeeky clean so looks like a new car to those not in the know.

Couldn't care less what people think of my Z4, good or bad. I bought it solely for the fun of driving it. :driving:

how much is a z4 new in the UK? here in OZ they are about $130,000 new

so the Z4 has always been considered flash here, i drive an 03 3.0i and i paid just over 40K for it 6 months ago!!

However i do get a lot of comments, even people shouting from the side of the ride as i drive past, and when my clients come into my office they usually seem to make some kinda comment from "i just ran into the grey car in the car park" to "OMG i love everything about that little Beemer"

One of my clients has the new nissan GTR and he thought my car was worth as much as his 8)

Nice: A summers day.. some nice coutry lanes with the roof down.
Not Nice: In the snow, and every other FWD car is overtaking you while the rear end shuffles all over the place...

Nice: At a set of lights and some kitted saxo pulls up next to you in the wrong lane, blatently trying to cut in; and without even getting it above 4k rpm can easily pull away from them.
Not Nice: The fact that every saxo tries to race you as you have a hairdressers BMW.... and no one gives you way as your in a BMW!

You guys are lucky you get good comments - I do sometimes, but have had a number of people spit at my cars over the years, in petrol stations, as they walk by.....

But also with whatever cars I've had, when driving the mrs car, a Nissan Figaro, always get more comments driving that.....

In terms of not being too flash in front of work collegues - i always say that i don't drink, or smoke, and don't have any children, which probably all in all saves me about £600-£800 a month - thats a good lease payment on a 50K car......

The bit about no kids, dead on mate. One of my co-workers explained, in great detail at the lunch table, the costs of his having children vs. my not having any ( $250,000 per ) and therefore the reason that I can drive flashy cars and he doesn't. It works for me anyway...

Let's hope your kids still like you when you get really old and need someone to take care of you...
You might want to let them drive the Z once in a while
