When does the 35iS engine loosen up ?

At what mileage do people feel the engine loosens up and gives full performance ?

My current 35iS is at 2800 miles and a lot slower than my 'old' 28,000 mile one which flew (when it was working!). Not a surprise but just wondered when people felt is was loosening up nicely ?

My old 330d LCI was tight to about 8K miles and really loose by 20K but that is a diesel. My experience with petrol cars in 7-8K stops feeling 'tight'. 14K feels really run in.

Anyone have a view ? I need to get out and get some more miles on my car ... but the weather is not encouraging me much !
 
Mine felt a lot better once it had passed the 15K mark and really improved after 20K :driving:

Tolerance of components and wear allowances

As for when it starts to loosen up, it depends on luck (as in who put it together and what combination of toleranced components went in) and how you use it, if you don't care about the effects and drive it like its stolen when cold, not very long at all.

Ex demonstrators tend to loosen up quite quickly :D

Mine has been so casual that its only now beginning to feel free, nearly at 40,000 miles
 
About time I had a new car again so I can experience this - been a long time since I had one from new, and back then I wsnt paying attention and knew nothing :oops:
 
I would say our's feels more responsive now at 35,500 than it did two and a half years ago when we purchased it with around 22,000 on the clock. There's a big difference in responsiveness between supermarket and Shell V-Power fuel though, even my wife noticed the difference in pick-up when she filled up at Sainsbury's when I was away on business. Plus we do have almost another 100hp under the bonnet now ;-)

Its an expensive way to get a slower car! (initially). Let someone else loosen it up for you and save thousands!
 
To be honest, I never felt any difference between 2k and 20k.

Perhaps it is a turbo thing ….
 
That's good to hear :D mine has 3500miles on it now & iam delighted with the way it goes just now, will wait & see if I notice much of a difference :thumbsup:

As with all things the more you use it the better it becomes :D

My 35iS is definitely 'zippy' at 2800 miles but I would say feels, by way of an example, a good second off the 0-60 time of my 28,000 miles one !

The new one is smoother but not as urgent. I look forward to it with more miles under its belt :evil:
 
Having had my new 35is delivered yesterday, and as I only do 2/3 thousand miles a year its going to take a long time to loosen up at that rate, and at 64 yrs of age I don't know if I've got that long :( but it should seem plenty fast enough after the 23i.
What about exhaust sound on the 35is does that get better with mileage, I know the 23i did but not by much.

The exhaust sound on my 2800 mile car is ok but again, like the performance, very polite compared to my 28,000 mile car. It seems more boomy than the higher mileage car and very few pops or rumbling on over run ... I guess that alters with miles too. Still sounds ok now though :D
