I have owned the car for 5 years now and I don't think I have ever used it. Do you use it much? And if so what for and when?

I came from an old school e34 M5 which has nothing more than an LSD.
The day after I got the Z4MC I thought I'd see what it was like with the DSC off - big mistake!
It's been on ever since, although I'm getting more comfortable with the car now and quite happily flick the back end out when it's quiet - still with DSC on though

The only time I've used DTC was on a trip to the Lakes a couple of weeks ago. The access track to the place we were staying was covered in compacted snow/ice and was pretty undulating. In DSC the car was really struggling to get moving up the slopes, but with DTC on it had no trouble. I used to think it'd be a bit of a waste of time, but it's actually very effective.
If you hold the DCS button for about 5 seconds you'll turn it completely off - enabling donuts or burnouts without any electronic intrusion, if that's your liking.
Pressing the button quickly makes the systems less intrusive, but it won't let you do something really stupid, although the tail will wiggle a bit more.
I always give the DSC button a quick press during winter, as the rubber in winter tyres is so soft that it the DSC sensors will react to 'drifting' even though the tyres don't really lose grip. As such, the DSC limits accelleration on wet roads for example.
If you ever get som snow in Ireland I'd recommend finding a nice open car park, turning the DSC/DTC completely off and get to know the car's handling a bit better!

I miss having a proper Limited Slip Diff but will switch to DTC or even all off when having a play, with a proper LSD it would enable much more control when at the limit of traction rather than spinning up the inside wheel. Its good to understand the cars natural traits and learn how to balance a RWD car using the throttle (ie what you can and cannot get away with) :driving:
I will probably get boo'd for this, but I turn off the DSC most of the time. I find it very annoying when I want to "goose" the car around a corner and have a little fun, only to have the car bog down and act like it is broken. I leave the ASC on, but usually because I am too lazy or in too much of a hurry to hold down the button for 30 seconds to disable it. Since I live in Florida there are very few places where I can get into the car enough for the ACS to kick in so it doesn't bother me that much. Traffic is thick here and the drivers are awful, so it is a rarity that I can play with the car, but when the opportunity presents itself, I don't want the overly intrusive nanny system forcing me to drive the Z4 like it is a Lincoln.

Actually you can turn it all the way off. Press and hold it for a few seconds. The DSC light will come on. Press it again and hold it for about 30 to 45 seconds. The ATC light will come on (triangle with a ! sign in the middle). Traction control gone.
At least in America. Perhaps your lawyers are more annoying than ours and made it to where you guys can't disable it completely.uk the same- all off for fun when road is clear
