When Do You Change Your Tyres (Tread Depth)

This was on my M5, not on the Z4. I'm much more careful now!

:shock: I guess you're excuse is an m5 could eat a set of tyres for breakfast. Lol. Did the garage say much when you changed them? I got a bollocking and made to feel shorter than I already am when an inside shoulder on an old car went to canvas without me realising.

If I'm gonna be driving on wet roads, I'll change the tyres when there's about 2mm left. I changed my Mich PS2s when they had 2mm, although they still handled superbly with 2mm tread left.

My current set of rears are just about on the 1.6mm wear blocks from the middle of the tyre to the inside edge, and so I'll be replacing them the next time the car leaves the garage. The MOT is due at the end of the month, so will definitely change them before that to save the advisory. They've only been driven on dry roads, and it's nearly summer, so I wasn't too fussed about letting them wear out.

The garage didn't say a word as these were tyres on my track wheels, and I knew I'd need two new tyres fitting after the track day. So I thought I'd be clever and bring 2 spare wheels with the new tyres on to swap over at the end of the day. Just didn't realise I'd go through 3.

Depends on the time of year as well. If they're getting low and summer is approaching I would probably change them after the summer in time for the worse weather. That's of course assuming we have a summer!

Agree for most cars. But my Z's a sunny day car. 8)

Changed the last set, as the rear started getting quite mobile. Glad I did as there was more wear on the inside tread than the outside, which I hadn't spotted.

After seeing loads of pics of wear on the insides of tyres on the forum I now religiously check the inside depths every time I wash the car. I haven't gotten to the point of measuring them each time, but I reckon it's just a matter of time before I add another small action to my growing list of OCD behaviours

2.5-3mm on the rears and 2/2.5 on the fronts for me
