I have just bought a 2004 Z4 2.2i - I love it but it has 16" wheels (with RFTs). The tyres are brand new so I'm reluctant to spend out on 17" or 18" plus tyres immediately. Just wondered which wheels which suit the car best when I do change them. Also, thinking of an exhaust upgrade. Again, wondered what the opinions are.

Get some more wheels with non-runflat tyres. You can use them just for summer, and keep these ones for over the salty month's, and for future resale.
Some dealers don't like part ex's with non RFT's fitted and lower the trade in value even more.

18s are the way forward. Elipsoids type 107, or the type 108 wheels seem to be the most popular. I have the 107s myself with Falken 452 non runflat tyres.

Not a colour I've seen many Z4's in - I like that 
Absolutely crying out for 18"s, IMO BMW style 107 or 202's would look pretty nice. This is 202's, very similar to 107's:

Your wheels are exactly the same as my originals.
I now use them with the run flats for my winter wheels from November to March and swap to my 18" MV2's for the summer months without the run flats.
Great because it means tyres last much longer and if I get a puncture in winter I can keep on going!
Can't help on the exhaust upgrade as I like mine just the way it is

It seems that 2.2ers are quite rare out there!
Great suggestion to use them for winter - I think I'll go down that route too.
