I've seen this before
It is getting closer to what I am looking for but still a bit extreme,
They are to wide, about half an inch thinner , 35/30 tyres not the 30/25 that is on it and less of a suspension drop is more of what I am thinking.

Everyone thanks for the advice, I sure you all think am I bit nuts and ur right lol but I know what I am after and I hope I will get there in the end.

The new Boxster is going to come with 20 inch wheels, and the new Continental GT now comes with 21'' wheels as an option.....won't be long before the Z4 comes with 20'' wheels...
 
I'm not too sure on the tire sizes r1andy but I'll check when I get home. I have OEM BMW 20's fitted to my 5GT with Bridgestone Potenza's and the ride is spot on, but I have the full adaptive suspension wizardry which makes for great ride quality even with the RFT's.

For the Z in my opinion 20's arnt the way to go, I can understand you want to change the look (i've toyed with that idea myself) but I cant see that 20's in any circumstance would look right on the Z. On a bigger car like a 5, 7 or X5/6 yes but not on a sleek machine like the Z.

£3K and up is alot of money to spend on wheels which will probably make your car look douche. It looks great as it is :)

I know it's your car, but they just look like the wheels some young chav would fit to his Vauxhall Corsa....to much bling

.....and I'm certainly not against after market wheels either

Personally, I think a 20" with a lip (so it doesn't look too overbearing) would be perfect for the E89. Something like BBS LM/LM-R wouldn't be so bad actually.

That looks good, but on UK Roads, I would get them in a 19

These are the images I've been after
You are right , look ok from some angles and from others look to big
And I could not live tyres this thin

Defo if I was going for 20" they would have to be Stepped wheels and I am going to look into bigger tyres with out lowering the car.
I am be barking up the wrong tree but no harm in looking

There are plenty of Cayman that looks great with Forgestars, most of them are on 19's too so definitely worth a look.

After re-reading a few more of your post and wheel requirements, I believe Forgestar or HRE are the best choices for you since they are practically made to order and you can request how big and how wide the wheels are and what kind of offsets you want.

Those are nice wheels, that's the sort of colour I think would look well with the red too...

Yes 20" and yes, not what I'd do. I have 19" wheels and while they look good, they're rock hard ride-wise. God knows what a 20" wheel feels like.

Love the standard 19s, wished I'd forked out that little extra when speccing but played safe thinking the ride might suffer after 1 series ownership. What I noticed a little more with the 19s on the test drive was slightly more tyre roar compared to the 18s.

To be fair he did mention it's his weekend car so comfort is probably not his first priority. The E89 can definitely be tastefully done with 20's where it might even look stock especially since he doesn't really want to lower the car either. he just has to find the right wheels.

Yes 20" can look very wrong but so can 19 and 18 also
It's down to what suits the car
I can safely say I've never added mods to a car and did it wrong, the 20" where busting my balls because I cannot find any I 100% like , so I think its onto 19" with slightly different tyres, eibach springs and possible some wheel spacers.
It's been a good post with some interesting thoughts and images .
