Ok, got 3 new runflats, best part of £1000, not before I had a full new set of non run flats about to go on, when the tyre place noticed cracks in the backs of my 19's. A call to the dealer said they would do a run out and see if that happened under severe pot holes etc or manufacturers defect. But if I changed my Tyres to standard ones, the warranty would be void.

So will let you know on Monday...if it's my fault, that's £400 a wheel......oh well...if you can't afford to run the car, why have one at all.......

Yes, but with most cars you don't need to factor in the cost replacing cracked wheels at £400 per corner !

Very true....they say never been seen on a Z E89 but other forums say otherwise....just smallish cracks. Safe to drive?

I wouldn drive it and I would be taking it a lot further, hence the reason I mentioned it before taking car on 19s and was told " no problems on Z4s only on 3 series and one type of alloys"

Fit for the intended purpose springs to mind... not the first I have heard of these 19" wheels failing and some insinuate that the stiff low profile RFT's are contributory to their failure.

Who makes the wheels for BMW and what are their thoughts on the fitment of RFT's/vs non runflats :)

Well I had four Yok's about to go while talking to BMW, and they said once the run flats come off they won't entertain anything.....car going in for rolling test on Monday....

Either £400 each from stealer....or £200 each refurbed from eBay....un cracked of course!!

Been driving on them all day and seem fine....but more mindful ofnbig pot holes....

This is pretty common on all BMW's.... Personally Nick i wouldnt drive it... and if you must then limit it to town and no motorways.

BMW replaced my dads rear 19's after the same problem on his M5.

Does the M5 have runflats as well ????

Nope.... but they are made from the same glass like alloy as most other BMW wheels!

The dealer replaced them with no quibble though, but the car had covered under 5k miles.. As my dad gets the train everywhere with his freedom pass!!

Only reason my dad noticed the cracking was because a work colleage told him about it.... So he removed his wheel to have a look.... Who knows how long they had been like that.

pretty common on any car driven over potholes with 19" wheels covered in rubber bands......

which 19" alloys were they?

296, 326 or 313s?.

i think 296 on the z4 has been were the main problems have been, plus some CSL reps. (check out e89 post)

296's....car going in today. New tyre lost pressure on same side again, so the crack is letting air in....

Yeah yeah ok!!! :D

Latest is that BMW will not approve the works and that the wheels are not covered under warranty. Deaer that sold me the car have said they willpay for one wheel and i will have to pay for the other!

Moral of the story....check your 296`s every week if you can...mine could have been like this for months.

Has really put me off buying another one.

Fu%&#@ing BMW!

How can a softer tyre crack the wheel?

In either case, there are TONS of people who must use RFT on 19" on the Z4, so if there is a fundamental issue it'll be clear pretty soon.

Just a bugger if you pay for them now and then in 12 months BMW are giving them away for free!
