Wheels and tyres

As I want to keep the 224 M wheels as they are 100% unmarked with very good Michelins, and the CSL set I have on the si is almost new, I want to get a good set of wheels and tyres to sell the si with.

Anyone got a decent set not a gazillion miles away from Gatwick?

I have newly, professionally refurbed MV2s in silver. Never seen a tyre let alone been fitted.

Based Guildford. Was asking £650 on the basis I am in no hurry to sell, and would quite like to try 18" alloys on my E86 one day. But on the other hand they are taking up space and I think I'm leaning towards keeping my current wheels on there for the foreseeable future.

If you're interested send me a message with an idea of what you might be willing to pay and your mobile number and I'll call you tomorrow.

No worries if you're not!

Unfortunately that won’t work as I need tyres as well, and then it gets really expensive in total as I just need it to sell the car with wheels and tyres, buyers tend to like that

😆 MV2 would be a good option though given they’re quite common as the standard sport wheel, loads on eBay in various states.
I found these ones not far from me (so I could assist) look in acceptable condition and open to offers.

Thanks for looking, that is a good idea. I do feel like I need to get near perfect wheels when selling the car as otherwise it gives the impression I don’t care about the car which might hurt the value.

If someone just gave me £1500 for the wheels I would not have to worry about it

I have a lovely set of Alpinas for sale.

Alternatively, these look good on eBay. Refurbed plus good tyres plus not 100 miles from you.

Alpinas are very nice but if I remember well, have winters on them (like the eBay ones as well). Appreciate the looking though.

Sorry, didn’t realise you didn’t want winters, just decent tyres to sell the car on. I would not have thought winters would detract from your sale prospects at this time of year, not everyone keeps their Z4 in a heated garage :D

The trouble with second hand wheels is they're only a good option for a tiny number of people and are not worth posting.

Those don't look good enough to go on a car to be sold, unless it is a proper budget car where the buyer knows there's lots to do.

The only real buyers are -

DIY refurber happy to have cheap tyres
Someone on a very very limited budget
Someone who is planning on refurbing properly and they probably don't want the tyres (and then the wheels are worth £250 absolute tops and probably a lot less)

I thought they were a reasonable solution Fred for a low cost and didn’t look too bad. I know they can be bought for around £300 which is considerably less than your set which with tyres would be over a grand plus. I would be happy to inspect and collect saving delivery cost.
Yes I agree ideally a clean set of alloys would help and show the car in a good light.
Perhaps something needed between my suggestion and yours Fred?
What’s your thoughts on budget and ideal condition PVR? OEM preferred?

I'm not having a go at you for suggesting them, and they probably look OK at a distance on a budget car. But they do look fairly corroded and it won't a take a buyer with particularly high standards to say "I need new wheels or a refurb - give me a load off".

And that is the challenge. If I spend say £700 to get non perfect wheels to save my £1600 wheels, is it false economy as a buyer will see those wheels and haggles the car down because if it and I end up with a lower sales price.

Also the expensive wheels might make the car stand out in the sales process. Decisions … :|

All part of the fun! I enjoy the thinking and researching and buying and selling that comes with hobbies.

No worries Fred.
Yeah perhaps wait to see if anything comes up PVR for a reasonable price. Presumably you’re not in a hurry to sell with the market and the season. Sounds like your Si is pretty mint as I recall reading you spent a lot getting it up together. Probably deserves a good set of OEM alloys to help sell. I’ll post if I stumble across anything. Ghen is breaking an E85 on MV2s on eBay. Perhaps they’re cleaner.
