Wheel spacers

Just a quick question to those that might have fitted any 5mm wheel spacers to their e98.
Do you still need longer bolts with the spacers only being and extra 5mm ?

I don't know about the E89, but on my E46, E90, E91 and E86 the bolts don't seem to go much further than 5mm into the hub - so I wouldn't want to try any spacer without longer bolts!

Probably the safer option.

The first time I took one out I was surprised how little thread seemed to be in the hub. :o

The thread size on the E89, E85 and E86 being M12x1.5 needs to make eight full turns in to the hub to reach full mechanical strength. Beyond this, the extra turns arent making the joint any stronger. I would say as long as the bolt makes eight turns it is long enough for the spacer.

Are your 5mm spacers hubcentric?

No, not enough metal on them to make them hibcentric

Given that 5mm hubcentric spacers don't actually exist I find that highly unlikely.

To answer the op's question, you will be fine with your original bolts.

I used all new bolts, 5mm extra fronts and 10mm extra rears.
Also people say they should turn 8 full turns in also but i checked the originals and these only went in 6.5 to 7 turns

Do you know what hubcentric actually means? I'm guessing not otherwise you wouldn't have posted that link.
Yes some people market 5mm as hubcentric, but it's impossible, really they are talking about correct centre bore.
Have a look at the difference in design to an actual hubcentric spacer which you'll find in say 12, 15mm etc.

You really are THE most arrogant person to take to a keyboard, you must be so proud of yourself.

Are you so special you have to lord it over others that may not know what you do? I doubt very much you’ve ever understood the word ‘humbleness’, maybe have a look. Is it too much to explain the difference between the spacers without such arrogance? You constantly do it on here. If you know so much as you seem to think why not be an asset to the forum without the dickhead attitude.

Fair enough, better safe than sorry. I don't think 8 turns is necessary on these bolts though.

May not know what to do? The guy told me I was wrong and sent me a link to 'prove' it.
He could have said, hey I see there;s a few companies advertising 5mm as hubcentric, but no that wasn't how it was phrased was it, in turn you'll get a response like that from me.
In any case I think the man is probably capable of speaking for himself :? No doubt he's bigger than me :P

 All he said was 5mm hubcentric exists, that’s it, and you’re pointing out how it was phrased....especially after your first post of “ Given that 5mm hubcentric spacers don’t actually exist I find that highly unlikely” . What has his size got to do with anything.... :? :? Clutching at very short straws there Tom.

Two thumbs up for your arrogance, which I’ve pointed out before, already, maybe time to have a word with yourself.
