Wheel sizes.

After posting the pics of my '03 Z4, it was suggested I get new wheels for it. I'm totally ignorant as to what will and won't go with my car. Can anyone tell me the ups and downs of 16", 17", 18" and 19" wheels? Performance doesn't mean much to me, I'm past the boy racer stage and it's mainly aesthetics that concern me. Do I have to fit spacers etc.? I had a look to see if there was a faq and read a few of the posts in the forum, but a lot of it goes over my ignorant bonce. The wheels I have fitted are the factory ones.

It depends entirely on whether you want comfort or style.

16" wheels, especially fitted with non RFTs, mean cheap tyres and a very comfy ride, but the aesthetes here will decry their use on the grounds of...something or other, I don't know. Its just a bloody car. :poke:

Larger rims mean lower profile tyres, and each graduation up the scale - whatever peeps might say here - means a crashier ride, more expensive rubber and, at the 19" end of things, greater likelihood of damage to the actual rims.

So you pays yer money and takes yer choice really......

If it's aesthetics you are most concerned with I would go for something a little bigger than 16s which personally I feel look a little small on the Zed.
I run on 19s with non runflats and have no issues with the ride quality, as do many others.
I am sure those who have no appreciation of aesthetics will tell you otherwise

if you are looking for spares then 17 seem to be okay too.
I personally wouldn't go bigger.

I have 17s as winters with non-RFTs on them - they look better than the 16s IMO, and the ride was great. All my fillings have fallen out since I moved back to my 18s with RFTs... Which will be changed for non-RFTs very soon...

I was torn between 17" and 18"- but went with 18" 108's (just cos a good set came up at the right price)- I get OK ride with 18's +non RFT'sa- but I do agree if your not worried about looks then stick with the 16's

I'll be selling my 17" standard wheels with Bridgestone run flats with plenty of life in them as soon as I pick my car up and sort some 18s.
